HIS DAUGHTER SAID HIS OLD MEDALS WERE “CLUTTER”

Grandpa kept a small box of medals in his bedroom.

His daughter found them while cleaning.

“We need to get rid of some of this clutter.”

Grandpa looked up.

“Not those.”

She sighed.

“What do you even do with them?”

Nothing.

He simply kept them.

His granddaughter asked to see them.

Grandpa explained each one.

Not with pride.

Mostly with stories about the people he had known.

Friends.

Coworkers.

People who had helped others during difficult times.

The granddaughter listened quietly.

Then created a display case.

She mounted every medal beside a photograph.

At the bottom she wrote:

THE STORIES BEHIND GRANDPA’S BOX.

When his daughter saw it, she stopped.

She had seen clutter.

Her daughter had seen history.
