THE SHOP ASSISTANT SAID GRANDMA COULDN’T AFFORD THE DRESS

Grandma walked into an expensive clothing store.

She wore comfortable shoes.

An old handbag.

A simple coat.

She touched a blue dress.

A sales assistant looked her up and down.

“That one is rather expensive.”

Grandma smiled.

“I saw the price.”

The assistant continued:

“We have cheaper items in the back.”

Another employee approached.

Then stopped.

“Mrs. Harrison?”

Grandma recognized her.

The young woman had once received a scholarship funded by Grandma’s late husband.

She hugged Grandma warmly.

The first assistant looked confused.

The young employee explained:

“Mrs. Harrison’s family foundation paid for my first two years of university.”

Grandma eventually bought the blue dress.

Not because it was expensive.

Because she liked it.

The first assistant personally carried the bag to the door.
