HER DAUGHTER CALLED GRANDMA’S FURNITURE “GARBAGE”

Grandma’s daughter walked through the living room.
She pointed at the old wooden cabinet.
“That needs to go.”
Then the dining table.
“And that.”
Grandma frowned.
“Why?”
“It’s old garbage.”
Grandma touched the dining table.
Her husband had built it by hand in 1971.
Every family birthday had happened around it.
Every Christmas dinner.
Every homework assignment.
Every difficult conversation.
Her grandson overheard.
Later, he asked Grandma:
“Can I have the table someday?”
Her daughter laughed.
“Why would you want that thing?”
The grandson ran his hand across the scratched wood.
“Because Grandpa built it.”
Then pointed toward a tiny carved mark underneath.
“Dad made this when he was eight.”
His father stared.
He remembered immediately.
The “garbage” was suddenly a family history book written in wood.
