HIS SON CALLED HIM “DEAD WEIGHT” AT THE FAMILY BUSINESS

Grandpa stopped by the family store.

He had founded it forty-two years earlier.

His son now ran the business.

When Grandpa offered to help organize the stockroom, his son laughed.

“Dad, just sit down.”

Then, in front of two employees, he added:

“You’re basically dead weight around here now.”

Grandpa’s smile disappeared.

He quietly sat near the front window.

An hour later, an elderly customer walked inside.

The employees couldn’t understand what part he needed.

Grandpa stood.

He recognized the item immediately.

Then found an old replacement part nobody else knew they still carried.

The customer smiled.

“I’ve been coming here since you opened this place.”

Grandpa laughed.

“So have I.”

Later, one employee asked:

“Mr. Carter, how do you remember all this?”

Grandpa looked toward his son.

“Because before this was his business…”

“I built it.”

His son lowered his eyes.

The old man he called dead weight was carrying forty-two years of knowledge nobody else in the building had.
