Divers Free Giant Manta Ray From Fishing Net

Few underwater encounters are as impressive as seeing a giant manta ray glide silently through the ocean.
But for one manta ray, a peaceful journey became dangerous after fishing net became caught around part of its body.
Divers noticed the problem while swimming nearby. Although the manta ray was still moving, the net was trailing behind it and could potentially become more tangled.
The rescue team carefully followed the animal.
Because manta rays are large and constantly moving, the divers needed to approach without blocking its path or causing unnecessary stress.
One diver moved closer while another remained nearby.
The first rescuer carefully reached the loose section of net and began cutting it away.
Underwater visibility was good, and sunlight passed through the surface as the team worked beside the enormous animal.
After several careful movements, the final section of net separated from the manta ray.
Suddenly, nothing was holding it back.
The ray extended its enormous fins and continued gliding through the water.
Within seconds, it moved away from the rescue team and slowly disappeared into the deep blue ocean.
The scene was both peaceful and powerful.
Manta rays travel through large areas of ocean while searching for food. Unfortunately, this means they can encounter abandoned fishing gear and other human-made debris.
Removing these hazards from marine environments can protect countless animals.
For the divers involved in this rescue, the best possible outcome was watching the manta ray continue its journey.
No dramatic celebration was necessary.
The quiet image of the giant animal swimming freely again said everything.
