In a severe new escalation of the March 2026 Middle East conflict, Iraq has announced the immediate shutdown of all major oil port operations following a ᴅᴇᴀᴅly Iranian attack on tankers near its southern terminals on March 17.

Explosions rocked the waters off Basra and the Al-Faw Peninsula as IRGC-backed forces struck at least two oil tankers loading crude at Iraq’s key export facilities. Oil prices spiked sharply once again, with Brent crude jumping over 11% as fears of prolonged supply disruptions spread. Major buyers, including India and China, are now scrambling for alternative sources.

Despite Iran’s expanding attacks on shipping, the dual-carrier strike group — USS Abraham Lincoln and USS Gerald R. Ford — continues to dominate the Arabian Sea under Operation Epic Fury.
