A U.S. military KC-135 refuelling aircraft has been lost during Operation Epic Fury, according to U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM). The incident occurred in friendly airspace over western Iraq during ongoing military operations in the region.
CENTCOM said two aircraft were involved in a mid-air incident, with one KC-135 tanker crashing while the second aircraft was able to land safely. Rescue operations were launched immediately after the aircraft went down.
The U.S. military said the incident was not caused by hostile or friendly fire, indicating the crash appears to be the result of an accident. Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the loss of the aircraft are ongoing.
