The mother of 12-year-old Ticaria Lampert

The mother of 12-year-old Ticaria Lampert spoke publicly through tears on Thursday, sharing intimate memories of her daughter as the community of Tumbler Ridge, British Columbia continues to mourn the victims of Tuesday’s mᴀss shooting at Tumbler Ridge Secondary School.

Standing before reporters in the small northern B.C. town, Sarah Lampert described her daughter — affectionately known as “Tiki” — as fearless, outspoken and full of humor.

“She just wanted to bring her sunshine to everyone,” Lampert said. “She was everything, especially to me.”

According to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), Ticaria Lampert was among eight victims killed during the February 10 shooting at the school.

Authorities have confirmed that most of the victims were between the ages of 11 and 13. Police also reported that two of the deceased were family members of the suspect.

The suspect, identified as Jesse van Rootselaar, 18, died from what investigators described as a self-inflicted gunsH๏τ wound. The RCMP has not released further details about any specific connections between the suspect and the victims.

In her emotional remarks, Sarah Lampert remembered Ticaria’s love for making people laugh, saying her daughter carried what she called “Santa’s sack of every bad dad joke you could think of.”

She described Ticaria as strong-willed and compᴀssionate, someone who could bond easily with both her older and younger siblings. Ticaria leaves behind seven brothers and sisters.

“She was in no hurry to grow up,” Lampert said. “She is my forever baby.”

The tragedy has deeply shaken the close-knit mining community of Tumbler Ridge, which has a population of just over 2,000 residents.

Vigils and memorials have been held as families grieve and students attempt to process the trauma of the attack.

Local officials and mental health support teams remain on site to ᴀssist students, staff and families.

A fundraising campaign has been launched to support the Lampert family during this time, raising significant community support within days. Meanwhile, the RCMP continues its investigation into the motive and full sequence of events surrounding the shooting.

“Our family is shattered,” Sarah Lampert said. “To accept that my daughter is gone is impossible.”

As Tumbler Ridge mourns, the name Ticaria Lampert joins the growing list of young lives lost in one of the most devastating school shootings in recent Canadian history.
