Pelican Rescued After Becoming Tangled While Fishing

A pelican searching for food near the coast suddenly found itself needing help after becoming tangled in fishing line.

The bird was discovered struggling near the surface of shallow water.

Its wings were wet, and the fishing material made normal movement difficult.

A rescuer carefully approached from the shoreline.

Wild birds can become extremely stressed when humans come close, so the rescuer avoided sudden movements.

After reaching the pelican, the person gently supported the bird while checking where the line was caught.

The fishing material was carefully removed.

Within moments, the pelican was free.

Instead of immediately attempting to fly, the bird remained on the water for a short period, allowing itself time to recover.

Eventually, it began moving normally again.

Pelicans often hunt in coastal areas where fishing activity is common.

Unfortunately, discarded hooks, lines and nets can create serious hazards.

Birds may accidentally swallow fishing gear or become tangled while diving for fish.

These accidents are preventable.

Responsible disposal of fishing equipment can significantly reduce the risks faced by seabirds and other marine wildlife.

The rescue video captures a simple but meaningful moment.

A frightened bird became trapped because of something left behind by people.

Then another person stepped forward to help.

That contrast is an important reminder of the relationship between humans and wildlife.

People can create environmental problems, but people can also become part of the solution.

For this pelican, the rescue ended exactly where it should: back on the water, free to continue its journey.
