Mediterranean Sea – In a shocking and daring mid-sea ambush, Iranian fighter jets and attack helicopters have severely damaged one of Israel’s most important naval vessels in what Iranian sources are calling a “historic humiliation” for the Israeli Navy.
On March 21, 2026, a squadron of Iranian Su-35 fighters and Ka-52 attack helicopters launched a surprise strike on an Israeli Sa’ar 6-class corvette — a modern warship often referred to in regional media as Israel’s closest equivalent to an “aircraft carrier” due to its advanced capabilities and helicopter deck. The vessel was operating in the eastern Mediterranean when it came under heavy fire.

Multiple anti-ship missiles and rockets slammed into the ship, causing significant structural damage, fires on deck, and heavy casualties. Thick black smoke billowed from the vessel as Israeli rescue helicopters raced to the scene. The ship is reported to be badly damaged and is being towed back to port under heavy escort.
The IRGC Aerospace Force claimed full responsibility, stating the operation was a “precise and successful revenge strike” for recent Israeli attacks on Iranian targets. Iranian state television aired dramatic footage showing missiles striking the Israeli warship, calling it “the beginning of the end for Zionist naval power.”
Israeli officials have confirmed the attack and described it as a “serious incident,” vowing a swift and powerful retaliation. The IDF has already launched airstrikes against Iranian ᴀssets in response.

This ambush marks a dangerous new phase in the conflict, showing Iran’s willingness to strike Israeli naval forces far from its own shores. The Israeli Navy, long considered one of the most advanced in the region, has now suffered a major tactical setback.
As the damaged warship limps toward safety and the region braces for retaliation, one thing is clear: the war at sea has just become far more ᴅᴇᴀᴅly.
