Amidst the escalating Iran-2026 war, the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has just announced a direct attack on US warships in the Indian Ocean. According to Tehran, they used advanced ballistic and cruise missiles to target key objectives, including the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln and at least one escort destroyer.
This is seen as a strong retaliation after the US submarine USS Charlotte launched a Mark 48 torpedo that sank the Iranian frigate IRIS Dena on March 4, 2026, off the coast of Sri Lanka. The incident killed over 80 Iranian sailors, prompting Iran to describe it as a “mᴀssacre” and “treason” in international waters.
Details of the attack, according to Iran’s statement:

Missiles were launched from the Iranian coast, targeting US ships operating more than 650 km from the shore.
The IRGC claims to have inflicted “serious damage” on the USS Abraham Lincoln, forcing the ship to withdraw from the area.

The US has not yet confirmed significant damage, but the US Central Command (CENTCOM) has released images of the aircraft carrier operating normally in the waters.
President Donald Trump previously claimed the US had destroyed more than 60 Iranian warships in Operation “Epic Fury.” In response, Iran has repeatedly retaliated with missile and drone attacks and declared it would close the Strait of Hormuz if further threatened.

The situation is tense throughout the region:
US and allied oil tankers are under serious threat.
Many experts fear the conflict could spread throughout the Middle East, directly impacting world oil prices and international maritime security.
