High-stakes standoff shuts down major Georgia highway

The incident occurred on Thursday, March 5, 2026, at Arrow Automotive (also listed as Aero Automotive in some sources) located at 9504 Highway 92 (SR-92), Woodstock, Cherokee County, Georgia (near the intersection with I-575, next to Caribou Coffee and Chipotle).
Key details:
Suspect: Michael Warren Johnson (owner of Arrow Automotive, a convicted felon).
Origin: A domestic dispute in Holly Springs around 1:00 AM. Holly Springs Police notified Woodstock Police. Johnson fled to his shop and was found to be in felony possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
Johnson was heavily intoxicated, refused to surrender, threatened self-harm, and threatened to shoot officers if approached.
The tense situation unfolded as follows:

The Cherokee County Multi-Agency SWAT team (comprising the Woodstock Police Department, Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office, Georgia State Patrol, Holly Springs PD, and other units) surrounded the store.
Police used negotiators via bullhorns for hours, repeatedly calling out: “This is the police department. You are under arrest. Please come out.”
Around 9:15 a.m., the situation escalated significantly. Police requested a search warrant.
Highway 92 was completely closed (eastbound), causing a severe and prolonged traffic jam, affecting I-575 traffic and the busy commercial area.
Around 1:52 p.m., after a nearly 13-hour standoff, the SWAT team broke down the door and stormed in. They used a robot dog to lead the way, conducting a security check before the SWAT team stormed in.
Result:

Johnson was arrested without firing a sH๏τ or offering significant resistance. Due to severe intoxication, he was taken by ambulance to a hospital for a health check before being transferred to the Cherokee County Detention Center.
No one was injured.
The highway was later reopened.
Community reaction:

Witnesses described the atmosphere as “like a train wreck”: “Guns out, rifles drawn,” approximately 30 armed officers. Many witnessed the robot dog entering after the door was broken down: “I watched the robot dog walk his way in there after they broke down the door.”
The incident caused significant traffic disruption during rush hour, and was filmed from above by helicopter.
Current status (as of March 20, 2026): Johnson is being held in custody and faces multiple criminal charges (felony firearm possession + domestic dispute-related offenses). Police have not released further details of the new charges.
