A serious fire broke out aboard the USS Gerald R. Ford, America’s most advanced supercarrier, while operating in support of Operation Epic Fury on March 13, 2026.
US Central Command confirmed the incident, stating that flames erupted in a section of the ship, causing visible smoke and forcing immediate damage control efforts. Two US sailors were injured and are receiving medical treatment. Their injuries are described as non-life-threatening, and both are in stable condition.
The fire was brought under control by the carrier’s highly trained damage control teams. CENTCOM emphasized that there is no damage to the ship’s propulsion systems or flight operations, and the USS Gerald R. Ford remains fully mission capable.
Iranian state media and the IRGC were quick to celebrate, claiming the fire was the result of their latest missile or drone strike and proof that America’s carriers are finally vulnerable. Tehran called it a major victory in their “Gates of Fire” campaign.
The reality is far more resilient.
The USS Gerald R. Ford continues to operate alongside its sister carrier, the USS Abraham Lincoln, in the Arabian Sea. Together, they maintain overwhelming air superiority and continue launching combat missions against Iranian targets despite weeks of relentless Iranian attacks.
This incident comes amid Iran’s desperate escalation — including drone strikes on Gulf airports, attacks on commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz, and heavy rocket barrages on Israel. With its conventional forces shattered after more than 5,500 coalition strikes, Tehran is increasingly relying on propaganda to claim successes.
US Navy officials have made clear that the mission continues without pause. The dual-carrier strike group remains the most powerful naval force in the region, backed by B-52 bombers and thousands of deployed U.S. Marines.
America does not flinch in the face of adversity. While the fire aboard the Ford is a serious matter, it has not slowed the United States’ determination to neutralize the Iranian threat and protect its allies.
