In a major new claim that could deal another serious blow to American air power, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) says it has successfully tracked and sH๏τ down a U.S. F-16 fighter jet over central Iran.

According to IRGC statements, advanced air defense systems detected and destroyed the aircraft during a combat mission deep inside Iranian territory. Iranian state television aired footage showing what appears to be a jet exploding mid-air and crashing in a remote mountainous area. Tehran is hailing the incident as further proof that U.S. and Israeli aircraft are no longer safe in Iranian skies.
The IRGC, under the command of Mojtaba Khamenei, quickly issued a defiant message: “Another American warplane has fallen. We tracked and destroyed this F-16 with precision. This is clear evidence that we dominate our own airspace. We still have not used our best and ᴅᴇᴀᴅliest missiles. The more they fly, the more they will fall.”

This latest claimed victory comes as the war between Iran, the United States, and Israel enters a brutal new phase. Iranian forces have repeatedly struck Tel Aviv and Haifa, attacked U.S. bases across the Gulf, targeted energy facilities in Kuwait and Saudi Arabia, and launched long-range missiles toward Diego Garcia.
Retired U.S. General Jack Keane described the reported loss as “extremely concerning,” stating that even the downing of older-generation aircraft like the F-16 shows Iran’s air defenses have become far more capable than previously ᴀssessed.
Global oil prices reacted with immediate panic, surging past $24,350 per barrel — a new all-time record — as traders fear the conflict is rapidly spiraling out of control.
Is American air power losing its edge in the skies over Iran? With Tehran claiming yet another shoot-down and the U.S. military stretched thin across multiple fronts, many are now questioning whether Washington has underestimated Iran’s resilience.
The war that began as a limited confrontation is now threatening to become one of the most costly conflicts of the 21st century.
