A new phase of maritime security operations is underway after the United Kingdom confirmed the deployment of autonomous systems to counter naval mine threats linked to Iran.
UK Defence Secretary John Healey announced that unmanned vessels have been activated to detect and neutralize mines in key shipping routes, particularly around the Strait of Hormuz, where tensions and disruptions have intensified.

According to officials, these autonomous systems are designed to operate in high-risk waters without putting human crews in danger. Equipped with advanced sonar and remote-control capabilities, the vessels can identify underwater threats and carry out controlled disposal operations.

The deployment comes amid growing concerns over the safety of commercial shipping, as naval mines and drone activity continue to threaten one of the world’s most critical energy corridors. International partners are reportedly coordinating efforts to ensure that vital sea lanes remain open.

UK authorities emphasized that the operation is defensive in nature, aimed at maintaining freedom of navigation and preventing further escalation in maritime conflict.

The situation remains highly sensitive, with additional security measures expected as military activity continues to increase across the region.
