A U.S. Navy fast attack submarine fired a Mk-48 torpedo, sinking the Iranian destroyer IRIS Dena (Moudge-class) in international waters of the Indian Ocean, about 40 km off the coast of Sri Lanka.
This marks the first time since World War II that a U.S. submarine has used a torpedo to sink an enemy surface vessel. The Iranian ship sank within minutes; 32 sailors were rescued, but dozens perished.

The Pentagon confirmed: “A silent death.” Iran called it a “cowardly crime.” The U.S.-Iran conflict has officially spilled over into the Indian Ocean.
