In a shocking and highly aggressive move, Iran launched four advanced ballistic missiles in a steep, near-vertical “top-attack” trajectory directly at the USS Gerald R. Ford as the $13 billion supercarrier operated in the southern Gulf. Iranian state media immediately claimed a “historic hit” on America’s most advanced carrier, hoping the dramatic angle would overwhelm its defenses.

The missiles screamed downward toward the Ford’s flight deck.
But America’s response was merciless.
The carrier’s layered defense systems, supported by escort destroyers and airborne early-warning aircraft, engaged immediately. Three of the four missiles were destroyed in spectacular mid-air explosions by SM-3 interceptors. The fourth missile was deflected by electronic warfare and close-in weapon systems, causing only superficial damage to the flight deck. The Ford remained fully operational and continued flight operations without interruption.
What followed was devastating.

Within minutes, dozens of F-35C stealth fighters and F/A-18 Super Hornets from multiple U.S. carrier strike groups launched a crushing counter-offensive. MQ-9 Reaper drones and B-52 bombers joined the ᴀssault, systematically destroying every Iranian launch site, radar station, and command bunker involved in the attack. Additional 5,000-pound bunker-buster bombs slammed into underground IRGC facilities near the Strait of Hormuz, triggering mᴀssive secondary explosions. At least two Iranian missile boats were sent to the bottom of the sea in fiery blasts.
This failed Iranian attack comes as Tehran grows increasingly desperate in the 2026 Iran war. The regime continues raining missiles on Tel Aviv and Dubai, striking energy facilities in Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and Qatar’s Ras Laffan, while its own South Pars gas field still burns from Israeli strikes.
Despite earlier damage requiring repairs, the USS Gerald R. Ford and supporting U.S. carrier groups maintain dominance over the critical waterway carrying one-fifth of the world’s daily oil supply. Thousands of Marines from the USS Wasp remain on high alert, and America’s resolve has never been stronger.
Iran’s reckless provocation has once again backfired. Attacking the most powerful navy on Earth does not bring victory — it brings overwhelming, precise, and merciless retaliation.
