Emma Stone’s Bugonia To Hold Special Screening With A Catch: Attendees Must Shave Their Head

A special screening for Emma Stone’s Bugonia requires attendees to have their heads shaved. Stone plays high-powered CEO Michelle Fuller in the Yorgos Lanthimos-directed movie. Fuller is kidnapped by two men, played by Jesse Plemons and Aidan Delbis, who are convinced that she is an alien and shave her head.

Following its premiere at the 2025 Venice International Film Festival, Bugonia received excellent reviews and holds a 90% critical score on Rotten Tomatoes. It is scheduled for a limited theatrical release on October 24 and a wide release on October 31.

Before these theatrical releases, there will be a special screening at Los Angeles’ Culver Theater on October 20, where all attendees must already be bald or have their heads shaved in the spirit of Stone’s character. A barber will be on-site at the screening beginning at 6:00 p.m. to shave heads prior to the movie beginning at 8:00 p.m.

Tickets for Bugonia‘s bald screening do not guarantee a seat as the screening is on a first-come, first-served basis. Ony individuals 18 years or older are eligible for entry, and part of the unique screening will be filmed.

This is the latest twist in the movie’s creative marketing campaign, which has already included Bugonia‘s in-world conspiracy website about Stone’s character, Fuller, allegedly being an alien known as an Andromedan. There were also “vandalized” billboards in New York and Los Angeles featuring pictures of Fuller and graffiti that says “Andromedan Filth” and “Join the Human Resistance.”

While this other marketing leaned more into the conspiracy side of the movie, the bald-only screening is leaning into the absurd and darkly comical aspects of the project. Emma Stone shaved her head for Bugonia, and now everyone watching her during this screening will have to do the same.

All of these elements have helped build anticipation for Stone’s fourth collaboration with Lanthimos after previously working with him on The Favourite (2018), Poor Things (2023), and Kinds of Kindness (2024). For her performance in Poor Things, Stone won the Academy Award for Best Actress in a Leading Role.

Stone is now one of the frontunners for Best Leading Actress at the 2026 Oscars, where she could win for the third time, following her previous wins for La La Land and Poor Things. Viewers at the special Culver Theater screening can be further immersed in the experience and get a small taste of Stone’s behind-the-scenes preparation by going bald when watching Bugonia for the first time.
