Gabriel Luna Addresses Potential Return To The MCU As Ghost Rider

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is currently focusing on finishing The Multiverse Saga, as Phase 6 officially kicked off this summer with the arrival of The Fantastic Four: First Steps. However, as 2027 will finish the major story arc for Marvel Studios, there are only a handful of upcoming MCU movies and TV shows coming up.

In a new interview with Comic Book Movie, Gabriel Luna, who played Ghost Rider in Agents of SHIELD season 4, spoke about reprising the role, stating that “I’m open to it.” Luna looked back at his tiem playing Robbie Reyes, “As somebody who loved that part and loves that character with all his heart, and somebody who loves that universe and storytelling…I always keep the door open.”

Gabriel Luna: It makes me feel very happy just to know that people hold it that closely, and I think Clark [Gregg], Chloe [Bennet], and Ming [-Na Wen] were at New York Comic Con recently, and someone sent me a video of them just talking really sweetly about me up on the stage there. Basically, naming that fourth season as their favourite, which means a lot, because they had such a beautiful family on that show and delivered seven really wonderful seasons. For them to hold that season as the jewel of their experience really is special.

In conclusion, he is more than ready to come back to the franchise as Ghost Rider, years after portraying him in the ABC drama. Luna added, “Yeah, I love Robbie, I love the Ghost Rider. You know, they have my number.”

The last time the Marvel hero appeared on the big screen was in 2011’s Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance through Nicolas Cage’s version of Johnny Blaze. However, the character rights reverted back to Marvel Studios, which is how Luna’s Robbie appeared through Agents of SHIELD.

A Ghost Rider series was initially set to happen on Hulu with Luna, but the Marvel TV show got cancelled on September 25, 2019. The MCU has fleshed out its supernatural presence, even setting up the potential for a Midnight Sons project.

The Avengers: Doomsday cast will consist of both the Fantastic Four characters, Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, as well as several X-Men players. However, despite the film finishing shooting on September 19, 2025, there are still many heroes who have yet to be revealed for the 2026 installment.

More TV characters have slowly begun to get integrated into the movies, such as Charlie Cox’s Matt Murdock in Spider-Man: No Way Home, and soon, Jon Bernthal’s Punisher in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. It’s always possible that the next two Avengers movies will include more players from the small screen.

The Multiverse Saga will conclude with 2027’s Avengers: Secret Wars, with Anthony and Joe Russo set to direct it, which has yet to start production, but will serve as a reset for the franchise ahead of Phase 7. The next theatrical release for the MCU will be Spider-Man: Brand New Day on July 31, 2026.
