Multiple quality ghost movies are worth checking out on streaming in the lead-up to Halloween in 2025. Thanks to all the streaming services currently available, there’s no shortage of horror films to enjoy over the course of Halloween month.
During this time, some may look to horror movie franchises like Friday the 13th, Scream, or Texas Chainsaw Mᴀssacre, but in several cases like these, the real terror is manmade – a killer in a mask. While there’s plenty of room for suspense in slasher movies, it’s not quite the same as the sense of dread that can be found in a traditional “haunted house” movie where the main threat is supernatural in nature.
Whether you have Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, or perhaps no paid subscription at all, a long list of great ghost movies that are out there to be streaming either on Halloween itself or before.

Lady In White
Released in 1988 and currently streaming on Tubi, Lady in White is a 1988 horror film about a bullied 10-year-old student who gets locked in a classroom closet, where he catches sight of the ghost of a young girl. What he experiences sparks his interest in finding out what happened to her, and in turn, pulls her killer into focus.
Lady in White starts off with some startlingly creepy moments as its main character gets drawn into the story of the ghost and the mystery regarding her death. As it turns out, the real danger may come from the living and not the supernatural, which speaks to one of the most compelling themes in the genre.
The scares in Lady in White and the storyline it lends its main character goes to show that, contrary to movies like The Conjuring, The Exorcist, and The Shining, not every ghost has to be a demon in disguise for there to be genuine terror or a sense of suspense. The unknown factor that comes with Lady in White’s first half drives a lot of the suspense.

The Haunting In Connecticut
Before it was adapted as the fourth installment in The Conjuring series, the alleged haunting of the Snedeker family home in the late 1980s was the basis of the 2009 film, The Haunting in Connecticut. The Haunting in Connecticut doesn’t boast a good critical reception, but is much better than its 17% score on Rotten Tomatoes suggests.
At its heart, the film is a conventional, scary “haunted house” movie, which is something that can be refreshing when looking at all the other different directions the horror genre has tried to take in the 21st century. The Haunting in Connecticut is a very back-to-basics kind of horror film, and while that prevents it from delivering anything truly groundbreaking, it’s enough to entertain with some creepy scenes and a handful of jump scares.
The Haunting in Connecticut is available to be streamed on Peacock.

House On Haunted Hill
Despite not enjoying the same level of visual effects as films made in the 21st century, some of the black-and-white horror films from the 1940s and 1950s contained some legitimately scary material. One such film is the original version of House on Haunted Hill, which stars horror legend Vincent Price.
The House on Haunted Hill was a low-budget effort, yet it made waves when it hit theaters in 1959, so much that it inspired Alfred Hitchcock to try his own hand at horror in the form of Pyscho. Vincent Price puts in a great performance as an eccentric millionaire who challenges multiple guests to stay at a haunted house in exchange for a small fraction of his riches.
As a public domain film, House on Haunting Hill can be easily found and watched online, via free streaming services like Tubi.

The Conjuring 2
Easily one of the best horror movies of the 21st century, The Conjuring 2 – along with the other films in James Wan’s Conjuring franchise – is streaming on HBO Max. Following on the heels of the first film, which successfully revived interest in ghost movies, The Conjuring 2 is a rare sequel that actually manages to top its predecessor.
The Conjuring 2 created one of the scariest movie villains the genre has ever seen in the Nun. A ghost that isn’t even the main antagonist of the movie gets one of the strongest and creepiest moments in the franchise during a scene where a girl suddenly becomes aware of a ghost sitting behind her while she’s watching television.
Due in large part to quiet scenes made up of extremely long takes and not much dialogue, The Conjuring 2 is able to effectively create an edge-of-your-seat level of suspense that doesn’t wane until the villain is finally defeated.
Plus, it doesn’t repeat the mistakes of countless other horror films, which pack their films with so many jump scares that they lose their impact. The pacing of The Conjuring 2 is a welcome break from that approach.

The Ring
Another all-time great horror movie available to stream for free on Tubi is The Ring. Featuring Naomi Watts in the lead role, The Ring follows a young woman who winds up in possession of a videotape she soon discovers is cursed. The concept may sound silly on the surface, but the story quickly becomes morbidly serious, placing her and those she comes in contact with in mortal peril.
The spirit that haunts Naomi Watts’ character has since become one of the horror genre’s most recognizable villains. Its menacing design and the unsettling sound of its limbs contorting gives a chilling effect to every scene it appears in. A big part of that is owed to the fact that The Ring is careful not to overutilize the creature. It appears when the moment is right, enabling The Ring to get the most out of its jump scares.
Sporting a 91% score on Rotten Tomatoes, The Ring is a top-notch horror movie and a great source of entertainment for Halloween.
