2025’s Devastating The Batman 2 Letdown Is Saved By DC’s New Dark Knight

2025 features a devastating day for those waiting for The Batman 2, but at least fans had DC’s new Dark Knight to make up for it. Robert Pattinson’s debut as Batman was a success, with positive reception from critics and fans alike. The Batman went on to gross $772 million worldwide, with the plan for a trilogy still in place.

After the success of the movie, attention turned to the next chapter in The Batman Epic Crime Saga. That came in the form of HBO’s The Penguin series, which has become another major hit, standing as one of the best live-action DC series ever. However, The Batman 2 updates have been scarce, but thanks to 2025’s Batman movie, the wait is not too much.

The Batman 2 Was Supposed To Be Released In 2025

After The Batman was released in 2022, fans expected to see Pattinson back as Bruce Wayne relatively soon. That is because The Batman 2 was originally scheduled for an October 3, 2025, release. However, that day has now come and gone, with filming on the sequel not even starting. The Batman 2 has been delayed twice from its original release date.

First, DC’s Dark Knight was set to return on October 2, 2026. However, another delay would be announced, with everything now in place for the film to make its final October 1, 2027, release date. While The Batman 2 begins filming in spring 2026, we still have no concrete casting or story updates. No main villain has been announced three years after The Batman‘s release.

That has led to several rumors about The Batman 2’s story, with a few popular ones including the Court of Owls, Hush, and Mr. Freeze. However, many of those have already been debunked by DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn, who has also repeatedly sH๏τ down the notion that Robert Pattinson will be the DCU Batman. Fans are eager for more Batman.

The Batman 2’s Disappointing Reality Is Made Better By DC’s 2025 Batman Movie

Due to the anticipation for The Batman 2, the wait for the film after multiple delays could have been too much if only DC had not released a new Batman movie in 2025. Those patiently waiting for the return of director Matt Reeves’ The Batman universe can be treated to another Elseworlds version of Batman in the form of Aztec Batman: Clash of Empires.

The R-rated animated Batman movie offers a completely new take on the character’s mythos by fusing it with Aztec history. Fan-favorite Batman villains are present, like the Joker, Two-Face, Catwoman, and more. Aztec Batman is a perfect watch while waiting for The Batman 2, showcasing a violent, unique universe, with DC still managing to release a Batman movie in 2025 after all.
