OG X-Men Stars Give Honest Reaction To The MCU Recasting Their Superhero Roles

X-Men stars from the movie franchise have given their honest opinion on the MCU potentially recasting their characters in future projects.

At the X-Men panel at NYCC, stars Elliot Page and James McAvoy spoke about their past roles in X-Men movies and how they would feel if they were replaced. Moderator Josh Horowitz listed some potential names that could replace Page and McAvoy, including Colman Domingo and Bella Ramsey.

Page was happy about the potential prospects:They sound fantastic, so exciting to see, you know, people to take on a new iteration.” McAvoy was also optimistic about the future of X-Men and stated, “I’m excited to see what happens next. I was a fan before I was an employee, and then, no, you know, and I’ll be a fan again.”

McAvoy and Page appeared in X-Men: Days of Future Past (2014) and X-Men: Apocalypse (2016) together as Professor X and Kitty Pryde. Both of these movies are prequels to the original X-Men movies that began in 2000, тιтled X-Men. They follow the stories of mutants as they live in a modern society, and they must save themselves and all humans.

McAvoy was interested in seeing which new actors could replace him and said, “Colman Domingo sounds amazing, though. He is great.” Domingo is known for his roles in Fear the Walking ᴅᴇᴀᴅ, Selma, and Lincoln. There have been rumors that Marvel is potentially eyeing Domingo as Professor X for potential reboots of the X-Men franchise.

Professor X was originally played by Patrick Stewart, and McAvoy played the younger version of Charles Xavier in the prequels, also including X-Men: First Class (2011) without Page. Stewart has previously stated he finds McAvoy’s portrayal flattering, while McAvoy has been a long admirer of Stewart.

Kitty Pryde in X-Men Days of Future Past

The Scottish actor is known for his roles in Split, The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, and Atonement. Page played mutant student Kitty and is known for his roles in Juno, Inception, and The Umbrella Academy.

A long-awaited X-Men movie is in the works at the MCU, but has no official details or release date. President of Marvel Studios, Kevin Feige, stated that “On the road to Secret Wars, we already know very well what the story will be up until then and beyond. The X-Men are an important part of that future.”

Marvel had already found a writer for the movie last year, Michael Lesslie (The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes). Thunderbolts* director, Jake Schreier, has been eyed to bring the X-Men reboot to life as the director.
