Mortal Kombat 2 Clip Shows Karl Urban’s Johnny Cage In Action

This post contains some spoilers for Mortal Kombat II

Mortal Kombat fans in attendance at New York Comic Con got their first look at one of the upcoming fight scenes from Mortal Kombat II, featuring two characters making their first appearance in this iteration of the video game adaptation – Johnny Cage and Baraka.

While the clip has yet to make its way onto the internet, though snippets of it were used in the Mortal Kombat II trailer, ScreenRant was in attendance at the Mortal Kombat II panel at New York Comic Con, so we can break down what happens in the clip for you.

The scene begins as Liu Kang (Ludi Lin) attempts to recruit Baraka (CJ Bloomfield) to help fight for Earth. When he refuses, Johnny Cage’s (Karl Urban) goading leads to Baraka challenging Johnny to fight. Johnny is not as prepared for Mortal Kombat as the other fighters – Liu Kang, Sonya (Jessica McNamee), and Jax (Mechad Brooks) – they’re convinced Johnny will die.

Johnny begins the fight by running around, avoiding Baraka. He’s eventually knocked down, causing his sunglᴀsses to go flying. Sonya tells Johnny, “you’re an actor, so act.” This leads to Johnny putting his sunglᴀsses back on and getting serious. He does some acrobatic flips to gain an upper hand over Baraka, before pulling out his signature groin punch to win the fight.

The crowd at the NYCC panel went nuts after seeing Cage’s groin punch brought back for Mortal Kombat II. It was one of many big moments from the panel, which also included Urban discussing Cage’s arc over the course of the movie, a new behind-the-scenes feature (watch below), and the announcement that Mortal Kombat III has already been greenlit.

Mortal Kombat II picks up after the events of 2021’s Mortal Kombat, as Lord Raiden and the other fighters of Earth continue to prepare for the epic tournament against Outworld. Among the new recruits are Johnny Cage and Kitana, while Outworld big bad Shao Khan also arrives on the scene.

Mortal Kombat‘s Simon McQuoid returns as director, as do cast members from the first movie, Lewis Tan, Jessica McNamee, Josh Lawson, Mechad Brooks, Tadanobu Asano, Chin Han, Ludi Lin, Max Huang, Joe Taslim, and Hiroyuki Sanada. Urban leads the group of new stars, which also includes Adeline Rudolph, Tati Garbrielle, and Marty Ford.

Mortal Kombat II is set to release exclusively in movie theaters on May 15, 2026.
