Wicked: For Good has taken just one day to smash multiple ticket pre-sales records on Fandango. The upcoming Wicked: For Good adapts the second act of the smash hit Broadway musical. The first act was adapted into Wicked, which became the fifth highest-grossing movie of 2024 worldwide and was nominated for 10 Oscars, winning two.

Fandango has now revealed that Wicked: For Good has had the most first-day ticket pre-sales of any movie of 2025. Its day one numbers also place it on the chart of the Top 10 highest-performing first-day pre-sale тιтles of all time, in addition to having the highest first-day pre-sales of all time for a PG-rated movie (beating the original Wicked).

As evidenced in the quotes and replies to Fandango’s X post, these record-breaking pre-sales for 2025’s Wicked: For Good are stoking speculation that the sequel could hit the $1 billion milestone by the end of its theatrical run, surpᴀssing the $756.4 million gross of the original movie.

What This Means For Wicked: For Good

Fandango pre-sales do not necessarily reflect a movie’s entire global box office run, because they merely reflect the number of viewers who are anticipating the release ahead of time. There are still other factors that could greatly affect Wicked: For Good‘s performance at the box office.

This includes critics’ reviews and how the movie’s Rotten Tomatoes score will compare to the Certified Fresh 88% score held by the original. Another factor will be how well the sequel performs during the 2025-2026 awards season. This could raise its profile deep into its run, pushing it closer to key box office milestones.

While the original movie was heavily nominated, it did not win many Oscars, so this may diminish the sequel’s chances. However, the two original songs on the Wicked: For Good soundtrack make it eligible for two Best Original Song nominations, giving it access to a brand-new category in which the 2024 movie was ineligible.

However, if those factors work in its favor, Wicked: For Good could be poised to make a major splash. Other movies that recently broke Fandango pre-sales records have surged past the $1 billion milestone, indicating that there is a pathway to that level of success.

These тιтles include 2025’s Lilo & Sтιтch ($1.037 billion), which was previously the best-selling PG pre-sales тιтle of the year, and 2024’s Moana 2 ($1.059 billion), which outsold the pre-sales of every 2024 animated movie that came before it, including those of Pixar’s record-breaking smash Inside Out 2.

Additionally, another тιтle that was previously the best-selling PG-rated pre-sales тιтle of 2025, A Minecraft Movie, went on to gross $957.8 million worldwide. Considering the fact that Wicked: For Good is performing considerably better, the possibility of it becoming a billion-dollar тιтle is not entirely unrealistic.
