Tobey Maguire & Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Man Return In Avengers 5 Gets Straightforward Answer From Star

Questions continue to surround who else from the Marvel Cinematic Universe will be featured in Avengers: Doomsday in 2026, and Andrew Garfield is once again part of that speculation.

In a new interview with GQ, Garfield responded to a fan who asked if he and fellow Spider-Man actor Tobey Maguire will be back for Avengers: Doomsday. The British star replied with, “No, unequivocally, f—ing no!” The two of them were last seen in 2021’s Spider-Man: No Way Home, alongside Tom Holland’s iteration of the web-crawler.

On September 19, 2025, the Avengers: Doomsday cast officially wrapped principal pH๏τography, directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, after several months of shooting. No filming date has been set yet for Avengers: Secret Wars, which will be the final installment in Phase 6, as the Russo brothers are set to direct the sequel.

In an interview with MTV on October 7, 2025, The Amazing Spider-Man lead addressed whether or not he is returning in Avengers: Secret Wars. But Garfield wouldn’t give a definitive no or yes, and simply stated to the outlet that “You’ll find out!”

The initial line-up for Avengers: Doomsday was revealed on March 26, 2025, during a surprise Marvel Studios live-stream that unveiled multiple returning players from the MCU timeline, but none of the previous Spider-Men were part of the announcement. The film will also include several X-Men actors from the Fox-Marvel era, including Sir Ian McKellen, Sir Patrick Stewart, James Marsden, and Rebecca Romijn.

Kevin Feige has confirmed there are more characters set to be added to the 2026 entry, following the live-stream. During CinemaCon on April 3, 2025, with ScreenRant present, the Marvel Studios president stressed that additional casting news for Avengers: Doomsday is coming.

Garfield and Maguire’s return in Spider-Man: No Way Home ended up becoming the biggest commercial success for The Multiverse Saga, with the Phase 4 installment grossing $1.9 billion worldwide. Holland’s web-slinger will officially return in 2026 for Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which is currently filming, with Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings’ Destin Daniel Cretton directing.

With only a handful of upcoming MCU movies and TV shows coming up, Phase 6 will only be running for two more years, culminating with the next two Avengers films. Whether or not Garfield and Maguire truly aren’t in Avengers ensemble remains to be seen, as the former became famous during 2021 for lying about not being in Spider-Man: No Way Home, following several rumors and pieces of evidence that suggested otherwise. Avengers: Doomsday will arrive in theaters on December 18, 2026.
