Tom Cruise‘s next movie already has a great deal of intrigue surrounding it, and cast member Burn Gorman now adds to the hype as he shares his experience. Directed by Alejandro G. Iñárritu, few official details have been released about the 2026 film, and that includes its тιтle.
In an interview with ScreenRant‘s Grant Hermanns for All The Devils Are Here, Gorman makes clear that he also can’t share any specifics on the film itself, but he does address his time filming it in England. According to the actor, working with Cruise on the production was an experience he’s unlikely to ever forget. Check out his comment below:
Yes, Grant, I can’t say anything about the film, but I can say that working with such a cast led by Tom Cruise was one of the experiences of my lifetime. We’re at Pinewood again, sH๏τ in the UK. Unfortunately, I can’t tell you anymore, but it really was, specifically, a career high for me working with those artists. So thank you.
“Those artists” Gorman is referring to include a number of notable stars. In addition to Cruise, the unтιтled film will feature performances from John Goodman, Sandra Hüller, Jesse Plemons, Emma D’Arcy, Riz Ahmed, Michael Stuhlbarg, and Sophia Wilde, among others, making it a noteworthy production due to the cast alone.
Written by Iñárritu, Sabina Berman, Alexander Dinelaris and Nicolas Giacobone, the film remains without an official synopsis, but ᴅᴇᴀᴅline reported last year that the film will star Cruise as the most powerful man in the world as he attempts to prove he is humanity’s savior as the disaster he unleashed threatens Earth.
Over the past twenty years or so, Cruise has solidified himself as an action star. The Mission: Impossible franchise, specifically, has taken up a great deal of his time, and each new entry features the star pulling off increasingly dangerous stunts. Cruise recently bid farewell to the franchise, however, with Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning earlier this year.
Cruise’s Iñárritu collaboration will essentially mark his first non-action-oriented movie since 2012’s Rock of Ages. At Cannes this past spring, Iñárritu described his 2026 epic as a “brutal comedy,” which certainly marks a major shift in terms of Cruise’s recent projects.
Cruise has also hyped the mysterious upcoming film, telling Today in May that filming the movie was an “extraordinary experience.” Given Iñárritu’s past work, which includes Birdman (or The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance) (2014) and The Revenant (2015), it’s possible that this new movie will put Cruise within reach of awards recognition once more, which he hasn’t had since starring in 1999’s Magnolia.
Though his Iñárritu collaboration will be quite a departure for Cruise, his bond with the action blockbuster genre seemingly isn’t going anywhere. The actor has a number of notable projects in development, including several with Mission: Impossible veteran Christopher McQuarrie, and that includes a World War II film and a crime thriller.
Those two movies are in addition to the in-development Top Gun 3 and several potential Doug Liman reunions, including an Edge of Tomorrow sequel, an underwater thriller costarring Ana de Armas, and a film that is planning a shoot in outer space. Though the Cruise audiences know and love isn’t going anywhere, this Iñárritu collaboration is shaping up to be an exciting outlier.
