LEGO has just released the new UCS Death Star, a mᴀssive Star Wars model featuring over 9,000 pieces and nearly 40 minifigures. However, three of those characters are receiving the brick-built treatment for the very first time, becoming incredibly valuable exclusives to the new model.
Released on October 4th, the UCS Death Star is currently on sale for $1,000, the most expensive LEGO set of all time. Effectively an open cross-section of the classic battle station with multiple rooms and scenes that can be displayed all at once, the new model comes with 38 individual minifigures to fill the mᴀssive build.
This impressive LEGO roster features not only classic Star Wars characters like Darth Vader, Luke Skywalker, and Princess Leia, but also brand-new (and quite valuable) minifigures: Galen Erso, H๏τ Tub Stormtrooper, and the Imperial Dignitary.
Why The UCS Death Star’s Galen Erso, H๏τ Tub Stormtrooper, and Imperial Dignitary Are Already Super Valuable
The engineer who developed the Death Star’s primary superlaser (and its hidden weakness), Rogue One’s Galen Erso has never been a LEGO minifigure before. Naturally, his inclusion in the new UCS Death Star set makes all the sense in the world.
The same is hilariously true for the H๏τ Tub Stormtrooper and the model’s secret jacuzzi room, in which he’s meant to be displayed – a fun nod to the LEGO Star Wars videogames. The Imperial Dignitary is a unique background character in Return of the Jedi who has never been a LEGO minifigure, one of Emperor Palpatine’s inner circle aboard the second Death Star.
Due to their current exclusivity to this $1000 Star Wars model, any collector attempting to get their hands on one or all three of these figures on the secondary market will still have to shell out the big bucks.
At the time of writing, Galen Erso has an average value of $145.69 on the major LEGO reseller site BrickLink, with a top price of $249.99. The H๏τ Tub Stormtrooper has an average of $171 with a max price of $299.99, while the Dignitary is sitting at an average of $119.83 and a top price of $187.18.
Collectively, the average cost to buy all three exclusive minifigures on their own is around $450, nearly half of what it costs to buy the entire UCS Death Star outright. It’s pretty remarkable for a few small pieces of plastic and a testament to the many LEGO collectors who pᴀssionately prioritize figures over builds.
It’s also worth noting that something similar happened when LEGO released its UCS Venator which came with a highly coveted Clone Commander Rex. Initially, this new Rex was also an exclusive minifigure with a very high value on the secondary market, only to have a pretty steep drop the moment LEGO put the same figure in a $15 microfighter set.
While something could theoretically happen with these three new UCS Death Star figures, I do have a hard time imagining what cheaper sets LEGO might actually make where they’d be included.
After all, the Imperial Dignitary is pretty obscure, and I don’t see LEGO making yet another Palpatine Throne Room anytime soon, especially considering the last few years. The H๏τ Tub Trooper is also very tied to the Death Star, and I sincerely doubt we’ll be seeing anything like an Erso Family Homestead or Imperial Eadu Facility playsets for Galen.
I do believe these three characters will remain some of the most rare and valuable Star Wars LEGO minifigures for the foreseeable future (and will likely only increase in value over time).
