Kirsten Dunst shares if she would come back as MJ in Spider-Man 4 after her original Marvel run. As the web-slinger has been reimagined on the big screen numerous times, including the Marvel Cinematic Universe timeline, the iteration that helped set a foundation for Peter Parker in cinema was Tobey Maguire’s version.
While Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios are currently working on Tom Holland’s Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which is filming right now, many have been hoping to see Maguire’s Peter Parker be further explored. After the Spider-Man: No Way Home ending, the door has been left wide open to revisit his universe.
During an appearance on The Supes Show, Dunst talked about the prospects of a potential Spider-Man 4 installment, after playing MJ Watson for three films. Not only would she be open to coming back, but the actress would love to see her Marvel character and Maguire’s Peter explored as parents, as she shared the following:
Kirsten Dunst: That would be cool, right? I mean, I don’t know if the fans are into it. I feel like that is an interesting movie, right? Me and Tobey doing that again…with kids.
Raimi’s Spider-Man 4 movie was initially set to happen in 2011, but due to creative issues behind the scenes, the sequel was scrapped. That was what led to Sony rebooting the franchise with Andrew Garfield and director Mark Webb for 2012’s The Amazing Spider-Man.
What Kirsten Dunst’s Spider-Man 4 Comments Mean
After Raimi’s Spider-Man movie trilogy, there are a lot of directions they could take with Peter and MJ, especially having a fourth installment that takes place several years later. As Maguire and Raimi have been open about coming back, Dunst’s willingness was another crucial component that the hypothetical film needed.
Maguire’s Spider-Man 4 film also got a slight setup in 2021 when Peter was stuck on Earth-616, and alluded to the fact that he and MJ are definitely still together. That alone makes the idea of them having a family even more possible, which would be a fun chapter to see for them after their initial trilogy.
Our Take On Kirsten Dunst’s Spider-Man 4 Comments
Hearing that Dunst is game to come back to the Marvel franchise after so many years is incredibly encouraging, especially as MJ was not always given the best stories to work with, which a fourth movie could finally fix. Exploring the Marvel couple as parents while Peter juggles being a superhero could also make it one of the best Spider-Man movies.
If it ever happens, it would likely have to be after The Multiverse Saga, particularly with Holland’s Spider-Man: Brand New Day being the primary live-action focus. But hopefully, Spider-Man 4 with Magurie, Dunst, and Raimi will happen down the line.
