James Gunn confirms a beloved Batman character is officially set to join the DC Universe franchise. While The Batman universe will continue to exist as an Elseworlds property, DC Studios is in the midst of developing its own take on the Dark Knight and his large mythology for their main continuity.
The Brave and the Bold movie is currently in development, with a script is still being written, and Andy Muschietti set to direct. Meanwhile, principal pH๏τography is underway for the R-rated Clayface film from James Watkins, which will bring one of the Caped Crusader’s famous villains to the big screen.
But with the many characters that exist in the hero’s lore, audience members are curious about who else may be joining the DCU down the line. One user recently asked Gunn: “I’m very interested in the DCU’s take on Selina Kyle. Do you have any plans or interest in bringing Catwoman to the DCU?” Luckily, the DC Studios co-CEO had an exciting response:

The Superman filmmaker stated, “Oh for sure,” although he did not specify at this time if Catwoman will be part of The Brave and the Bold. Currently, Catwoman is played in live-action by Zoë Kravitz in Matt Reeves’ The Batman.
What James Gunn’s Catwoman Confirmation Means
One of the key aspects to remember about the DCU timeline is that many heroes and villains are already established and active in this universe, which makes it natural for someone like Selina Kyle to be showing up sooner rather than later. This will also be the first time she has been part of a shared universe, as every big-screen iteration has existed under the Elseworlds banner.
It also shows that DC Studios is making up for the DCEU movie timeline, as Catwoman never got the chance to show up in any of these films. With this continuity, having an active Batman can also set up a lot of his complex history with her from various adventures.
Our Take On James Gunn’s Catwoman Confirmation
With Gunn’s confirmation that they have plans for her, there are many routes the DCU can take with Selina as the franchise grows. One primary example is the Gotham City Sirens, one of the many projects that the DCEU attempted to make, but never came to fruition.
Having Selina be part of a mᴀssive universe like this also allows her to cross paths with various characters, which will allow this version to stand out from previous takes. Hopefully, more details on Gunn’s plans for Catwoman in the DC Universe franchise will start to emerge in the coming months.
