James Gunn Teases DCU Slate Adding 2 New Movies

The DC Universe line-up is close to adding more тιтles from DC Studios, as James Gunn shares a new, exciting update. Chapter 1: “Gods and Monsters” has only just begun, with Gunn and his co-CEO Peter Safran bringing a new era of DC content across the big and small screens.

Following the success of the Superman movie, several more films are currently in various stages of development that were initially revealed in January 2023. However, new additions like Clayface, which came after the initial slate was unveiled, continue to be explored at DC Studios.

In a new interview with GQ, Gunn was asked if he could share any new updates about his new interconnected universe and tease anything new that he hasn’t already discussed in the past. As he is getting ready for Man of Tomorrow, the DC Studios co-CEO teased two future movies and an unтιтled TV show close to being greenlit:

James Gunn: Right now, there’s actually two really cool film scripts that I’m hoping to take to the next level that we have general plans for, and I’m excited about both of those. And then I’m excited about one TV project in particular. I don’t know why we’re not greenlighted on that already — it’s just figuring out the budget. So there’s a couple of things that are very present that I’m excited about. Dealing with getting Supergirl into shape, all these other things.

Watching episodes of Lanterns — that’s coming along well. So, it’s really just dealing a little bit with everything and then mostly Man of Tomorrow. That’s the biggest thing for me. I mean we go into production in April, so it may seem like far away to you, but to me, it seems awful close.

The DCU is currently focused on Peacemaker season 2, which has two episodes left to air on HBO Max. While the Supergirl movie is slated for June 2026, the Lanterns TV show will premiere sometime next year on HBO, as an exact launch date has yet to be announced.

As he has reiterated several times, any project at DC Studios doesn’t get formally greenlit until a script has been properly finalized. With his newest comments, that could easily apply to The Brave and The Bold movie and the new Wonder Woman reboot.

It’s key to remember that the initial slate announced in 2023 was less than half of what DC Studios is planning. That is why it could easily be two new movie тιтles altogether, as well as the mystery show, as there may have been pitches that Gunn has received that he is pleased with, hence why they are having to figure out the budget and ways to take them to the next level.

Hearing the progression of upcoming DCU movies and TV shows, it’s exciting to see how things are running as smoothly as they are at DC Studios, especially after the chaos that audience members had to deal with in the DCEU timeline. It wouldn’t be shocking if more details on the mystery series come out before the two films move forward.

While the franchise is still in its early days, the progression for Gunn’s superhero universe has so far been on a steady path. Hopefully, more updates for the DCU will emerge as soon as possible as DC Studios continues to enjoy its successful 2025.
