Den of Thieves 3 looks like it’s still a ways away from production getting going, meaning the release date is even further away. The crime franchise starring Gerard Butler and O’Shea Jackson Jr. has become a fan favorite. A third Den of Thieves movie was quickly announced following Den of Thieves 2: Pantera releasing earlier in 2025.
The first Den of Thieves follows Butler’s Nick, a tough-nosed cop, as he attempts to track down a notorious crew of bank robbers, of which Jackson’s Donnie Wilson is a part of. Den of Thieves 2 goes international after Donnie (Jackson Jr.) got away from Nick in the first movie. Nick eventually tracks him down, but instead of bringing him in, Nick joins Donnie’s latest heist. We spoil the Den of Thieves 2: Pantera ending, but it certainly offers some interesting places for the sequel to go.
Jackson Jr., recently shared a post on Instagram that gives an update on the timing of Den of Thieves 3. The star wrote, “9 months down. Give me another 9 and it’s GG. Let’s call it another 6 months. D3N of THI3V3S. Den 3 comin.“ All that likely means that production on Den of Thieves 3 is likely at least six months away, which would be March or April 2026.

Den Of Thieves 3 Coming Despite Sequel’s Disappointing Box Office

Despite poor reviews, 2018’s Den of Thieves became a solid box office performer, earning $80 million worldwide. After the movie became an even bigger hit from people watching it at home, there was an expectation that Den of Thieves 2: Pantera would top that. However, that didn’t happen.
Even after earning better reviews and having a very similar opening weekend at the box office, Den of Thieves 2 could not match its predecessor’s gross, topping out at $58.3 million worldwide.
Still, three weeks after Den of Thieves 2‘s release, Den of Thieves 3 was officially announced as in the works.
What’s Next For Gerard Butler And O’Shea Jackson Jr.
While Jackson is getting himself ready for Den of Thieves 3, he does have other projects in the works. Most notably, a new Macon Blair comedy, The sнιтheads, that also stars Dave Franco, Peter Dinklage, and Kiernan Shipka. Though no release date for that movie has been announced.
As for Butler, after reprising his role as Stoik in the live-action How to Train Your Dragon (premiering on Peacock on October 10), his next movie is a sequel to another one of his cult action movies, Greenland 2: Migration, set to premiere on January 9, 2026.
