Having originally been scheduled for a 2024 release date, Beyond The Spider-Verse has seen some considerable delays, which have now moved its debut into 2027.

During its delay, the upcoming Marvel movie has seen a range of new release dates and updates about its release window, including the film being taken off Sony’s release slate for a period of time. Now, however, Spider-Man: Beyond The Spider-Verse‘s release date is not only known, it’s actively even closer to coming to fruition.

This is exciting not only because it means the third movie in the animated Spider-Verse is now less than two years away after a long wait, but also because it actively means we’re set to get the film’s debut earlier than previously planned.

Prior to Spider-Man: Beyond The Spider-Verse‘s June 18, 2027 release date, the film was scheduled for June 25, 2027, having been pushed back several weeks from a previous debut day of June 4, 2027. This move means Beyond The Spider-Verse releases closer to Father’s Day – which may benefit its box office results – and now has slightly different film compeтιтion.

Why Spider-Man: Beyond The Spider-Verse’s Release Date Being Brought Forward Is A Good Thing

With much news about Spider-Man: Beyond The Spider-Verse being about its delays, hearing the film has been moved forward is certainly promising. This is true both in the sense the wait for the film is even shorter, and in the sense that moving the release date forward speaks to a sense of confidence about it being ready for this time.

Given Shrek 5 was delayed to June 30, 2027, Spider-Man: Beyond The Spider-Verse‘s prior June 25, 2027 release date would have placed the two films in more direct compeтιтion. Given the considerable popularity of the Shrek franchise – and the fact both animated movies aim to appeal to younger audiences – this could have proved detrimental for the Spider-Verse installment.

Instead, Spider-Man: Beyond The Spider-Verse‘s most direct animated compeтιтion appears to be Gatto, a Pixar original movie which also releases on June 18. While this could still present some challenges for the Spider-Verse, Gatto‘s nature as an original story does mean it may be less of a direct conflict than Shrek 5 could have been.
