Andrew Garfield Addresses If He Will Return In The Social Network Sequel

Andrew Garfield finally opens up about whether or not he will return for The Social Reckoning. More than a decade after its release in October 2010, The Social Network sequel is moving forward at Sony, from director and writer Aaron Sorkin, who wrote the first film.

Similar to the social media platform the movie was about, The Social Network became a mᴀssive hit for Sony, as the first film grossed $224.9 million at the worldwide box office, while also landing several Academy Award nominations, including Best Picture. With the sequel, the studio is aiming for another success while focusing on Facebook’s impact years later.

In a new interview with IndieWire, Garfield was finally asked about The Social Reckoning and whether or not there is a possibility that he will come back for the sequel as co-founder Eduardo Saverin. However, the British star is not planning to come back for the upcoming film, as the 42-year-old actor shared the following:

Andrew Garfield: No, no. Eduardo [Saverin] is in Singapore having a good time.

While he may not be back as Eduardo, the outlet did also ask the Spider-Man veteran if he’s excited to eventually see Sorkin’s follow-up to Fincher’s 2010 installment. Even though he isn’t part of the 2026 entry, Garfield is definitely looking forward to seeing the new film:

Andrew Garfield: Oh yeah.

It’s not entirely surprising that Garfield’s Eduardo isn’t attached to the sequel for several reasons. To begin with, Sorkin’s upcoming movie has not attached any of the original actors from the first movie, including Jesse Eisenberg as Mark Zuckerberg, as he will be played by Jeremy Strong this time around.

The premise of the story is centered on engineer and whistleblower Frances Haugen (Mikey Madison) and Wall Street Journal reporter Jeff Horowitz (Jeremy Allen White), as the famous “The Facebook Files” will be the driving factor in the new movie. With a focus on the 2021 files, the sequel is focusing on the platform from a whole new perspective.

While it’s not surprising that he is not coming back, it’s at least encouraging to hear that the original Social Network star is looking forward to catching the new movie. Having Sorkin’s upcoming sequel will also serve as a fascinating commentary on what Facebook has become today, especially in the current social media climate that exists.

Following the initial casting, there are bound to be more additions in the coming months. As The Social Reckoning is slated for October 9, 2026, more details will hopefully emerge sooner rather than later as filming gets closer to starting.
