Terence Stamp’s Last Project Might Still Happen; Beloved Actor Already Filmed His Part

Veteran actor Terence Stamp pᴀssed away this August, but there is a chance his character will still return in The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert 2. First announced in 2024, the follow-up to the hit 1994 Australian road trip comedy was initially expected to see Stamp return alongside co-stars Hugo Weaving and Guy Pearce.

While speaking with ScreenRant about the upcoming Netflix thriller, The Woman in Cabin 10, Pearce was asked whether he was still interested in returning for the Priscilla sequel following Stamp’s pᴀssing. Confirming his continued interest in the project, Pearce also revealed that director Stephan Elliot had already filmed a lot of his dialogue with the late actor:

Well, I would, and interestingly, I think because Stephan knew that Terence was very unwell, he actually filmed with Terence a lot of his dialogue, so we actually have that, strangely, and we’re in discussion about now how we utilize that, what we do, what we do to move forward.

Pearce also suggested that while Elliot has the footage of Stamp’s return, it is a sensitive topic, and the project is currently on a temporary hold until such time as they can resume discussions about a suitable way forward. Check out his continued comments below:

I mean, it’s still a pretty sensitive subject. Stephan became very close with Terence, so he’s a bit broken by Terence’s recent pᴀssing, so everything’s just sort of on hold at the moment and we’ll get back into more discussions when we can, but Priscilla is such a beloved film and world that I think people would probably love to see some more of it, but of course now with Terence pᴀssing, we need to kind of think about what that is, what we do now.

Pearce, however, thinks that The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert 2 could prove to be a touching tribute to his late co-star, once work on the sequel resumes. Check out his comments below:

Yeah, I think that’s right. Something needs to be, something needs to be done, I think especially to recognize Terence and all the great work that he did.

What Guy Pearce’s Comments Mean For The Adventures of Priscilla 2

Mitzi, Bernadette, and Felicia posing in the desert in The Adventures of Priscilla Queen of the Desert

With the original The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert widely considered a cult favorite and having helped lead a resurgent wave of Australian films into the international market in the mid-1990s, interest in the sequel has been considerable.

While many fans may have ᴀssumed that Stamp’s pᴀssing would hamper plans for a full Adventures of Priscilla cast reunion, Pearce’s revelation that the actor had already filmed many of his scenes implies that Stamp’s character, Bernadette Bᴀssenger, will still feature in the sequel.

Thankfully, however, it appears that the project’s director is taking the time he needs to properly weigh the implications of including this footage of Stamp and is looking to proceed with the utmost respect for the memory of the actor he had clearly grown fond of.

Our Take On Terence Stamp’s Potential Return In The Adventures of Priscilla 2

Throughout his decades-long career, Terence Stamp delivered a slew of memorable performances in some of pop culture’s most well-known franchises. From Superman‘s General Zod and Young Guns’ John Tunstall to Star Wars’ Supreme Chancellor Valorum, the late actor left an indelible mark on the industry.

For many fans, however, Stamp’s original tenure as the grief-stricken Bernadette continues to stand as one of his most memorable and influential roles. Stamp’s potential posthumous return to the role could be a fitting and deeply touching tribute, and a final reminder of the actor’s incredible talent.

Hopefully, however, if the decision is made to proceed with The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert 2 and include the footage that has already been filmed, it will be done in a manner both befitting of Stamp’s enduring legacy and with the full support of his family and loved ones.
