Jason Statham’s highly anticipated sequel The Beekeeper 2 has reportedly begun production. David Ayer’s 2024 hit The Beekeeper follows seemingly humble beekeeper Adam Clay (Statham), who is revealed to be former operative from the mysterious organization known as the Beekeepers, and sets out on a mission of revenge when tragedy strikes his friend and employer.

Following The Beekeeper‘s mysterious ending, a sequel was announced in February 2025. The Beekeeper bears many similarities to John Wick, which went on to become a successful franchise after its effectively standalone first outing, so it makes sense that this story would continue. The Beekeeper 2 also recently announced Yara Shahidi would be joining the cast.

Now, director Timo Tjahjanto, who just released Nobody 2, shared an image via Instagram that serves as an announcement that The Beekeeper 2 has begun production. This puts the movie on track for its rumored 2026 release, though this will be later in the year. Check out Tjahjanto’s post below:

Alongside Statham and Shahidi, Jeremy Irons is reprising his role as Wallace Westwyld in The Beekeeper 2. The Beekeeper screenwriter Kurt Wimmer has also returned to write the sequel’s script, with Statham again producing through his company Punch Palace Productions. LongsH๏τ Productions’ Chris Long is also producing.

What This Means For The Beekeeper 2

ᴀssuming The Beekeeper 2 finishes in production in a timely manner, it will be released by the end of 2026, depending on how long post-production and marketing take. Having established itself as a worthy John Wick replacement, it could shoot for a more compeтιтive release window than January, when the first movie premiered.

The Beekeeper 2 has also potentially added some more cast members who have not been announced, since Statham, Irons, and Shahidi are the only confirmed stars at this time. When The Beekeeper 2 would do well to further develop the Beekeepers lore, some additional characters could be valuable.

Tjahjanto is stepping into the role of director following the relatively successful release of Nobody 2, suggesting that he is adept at helming continuations of popular franchises that he did not originally spearhead. Notably, Nobody has also been compared to John Wick, preparing Tjahjanto to handle another property in this subgenre.
