AMC Plans Special Halloween Horror Movie Event Not Seen In Almost 20 Years

AMC Theaters has announced a special double feature of two new horror movies taking place on Halloween. This is something that hasn’t really happened at major movie theaters since 2007, when Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez teamed up for their Grindhouse double feature, which played by Rodriguez’s Planet Terror and Tarantino’s Death Proof.

AMC Theaters will exclusively host a double feature on Halloween weekend, October 31-November 2, where one movie ticket will allow you to see both Hallow Road, starring Rosamund Pike and Matthew Rhys, and Vincent Must Die.

Hallow Road sees Pike and Rhys play parents who receive a distressing call from their daughter after she has hit a pedestrian with her car. They rush to the scene to help, but the deeper they get into the woods chilling revelations are unearthed and threaten to tear their family apart. The movie, directed by Babak Anvari, has a 93% “Certified Fresh” score on Rotten Tomatoes; Screen Rant has its own Hallow Road review you can read.

Vincent Must Die, meanwhile, stars Karim Leklou as an ordinary man named Vincent who all of sudden has strangers trying to kill him, forcing him to go on the run. Vimala Pons also stars in the movie directed by Stéphan Castang, which also has a 93% “Fresh” score on Rotten Tomatoes.

AMC’s Horror Double Feature Is Latest Special Event To Draw In Audiences

Movie theaters have recently been coming up with ways to draw audiences back to movie theaters. That has included premium formats like IMAX and 4DX showings of blockbuster movies, sing-along screenings of movies like Wicked and KPop Demon Hunters, classic movies being shown in theaters for the first time in years, and partnering with Taylor Swift.

This double feature is the latest example of that strategy. Not only is it an unique event that is giving moviegoers a pretty good deal, getting two movies for the price of one ticket, but it is raising the profile of two acclaimed indie horror movies. John Hegeman of XYZ Films and Flawless, the companies that have partnered with AMC for this event, said:

“Consumers deserve a deal, and this double feature feels like the perfect way to celebrate Halloween weekend. We want to drive audiences to theaters for great indie movies like these, and this is a creative way to do it. We’re grateful to AMC for bringing this event to horror fans nationwide.”

Our Take On AMC’s Halloween Horror Double Feature

Rose McGowan in Grindhouse

I’m a mᴀssive fan of going to the movie theaters, so I love this idea. Its timing is perfect, with Halloween falling on a Friday and there not being another new horror movie releasing that day; other October horror movies like Good Boy and Black Phone 2 release earlier in the month.

Double features are a part of Hollywood history that most moviegoers today haven’t had the opportunity to participate in; myself included, as I missed out on Grindhouse the first time around. I’d love to see this happen more down the road, be it with more horror movies, other holiday-themed programming, or the pairing of classic movies.
