Although I’m certainly intrigued by super-jacked Hutt gladiators, I’m far more excited about another Mandalorian and Grogu character. Despite not having very much dialogue, The Mandalorian & Grogu’s first official trailer confirmed the appearance of a major Star Wars hero.
Giving us our first big look at the first Star Wars movie since 2019, The Mandalorian and Grogu’s trailer was heavily focused on Din Djarin and his adopted son tracking down the Imperial Remnant, connecting to The Mandalorian season 3’s ending. However, the trailer also teases that Zeb Orellios will play a large role in the new Star Wars movie.
Who Is Zeb? The Mandalorian & Grogu’s Live-Action Rebels Character Explained
Garazeb “Zeb” Orellios is a large purple Lasat, an alien race inspired by the original first sketches of Chewbacca by Ralph McQuarrie. Zeb made a surprise appearance in The Mandalorian Season 3, speaking with The Aldelphi Rangers’ Captain Carson Teva and helping train recruits for the New Republic Defense Fleet.
However, this scene also served as Zeb’s live-action debut, having first appeared in the animated series Star Wars Rebels.
In Rebels, Zeb was a key member of The Ghost crew and a founding Rebel cell known as The Spectres, resisting the Empire during the Dark Times. One of the last of his species, the Lasat warrior wields his signature bo-rifle, marking him as a former member of Lasan’s High Honor Guard before the Empire nearly wiped out his people.
Despite his tragic past, Zeb is one of the Ghost crew’s most loyal and beloved Rebel heroes. Additionally, Zeb’s fellow Ghost crewmates have made their own live-action Star Wars debuts in recent years, including Hera Syndulla, Ezra Bridger, Sabine Wren, and their stubborn astromech named Chopper.
Why I Expect Zeb’s Mandalorian & Grogu Appearance To Be Bigger Than A Cameo
Din Djarin and Grogu are now working with the New Republic, as established at the end of The Mandalorian season 3. Keeping that in mind, it follows that the duo would cross paths with Zeb in The Mandalorian & Grogu, who’s shown fighting multiple Imperial stormtroopers with his bo-rifle.
Additionally, exclusive footage revealed at 2024’s D23 event saw Zeb in the new Razor Crest with Djarin and Grogu, further confirming they’ll be working together in the new Star Wars movie. Likewise, it’s also important to note that Zeb will likely become a key character going forward, as Zeb’s also confirmed to appear in Ahsoka season 2 next year.
Overall, Zeb looks to be in a prime position to bring Din Djarin and Grogu together with his Ghost family, especially as we eventually get closer to Dave Filoni’s Star Wars movie that’s said to serve as the major culmination of all of Lucasfilm’s New Republic Era projects.
As such, I’m incredibly excited to see what’s next for Zeb in the Star Wars timeline (beginning with The Mandalorian and Grogu).
The Mandalorian and Grogu releases in theaters on May 22nd, 2026.
