After 25 Years, Avengers: Doomsday Is Finally Fixing The Biggest X-Men Movie Mistake

Avengers: Doomsday‘s use of the X-Men will lead to the Marvel Cinematic Universe fixing a mutant franchise mistake after 25 years. The cast of the next Avengers movie features many MCU heavy hitters. However, I believe the most exciting names announced for the 2026 Marvel film so far are those of the returning actors from Fox’s X-Men movie franchise.

While there will be many characters in Avengers: Doomsday, the Marvel film should still have plenty of opportunities to do right by the X-Men before the credits roll. Now, we seemingly have confirmation that Marvel Studios will be taking a page from one of the MCU’s best movies for the X-Men in Avengers: Doomsday, fixing a 25-year mistake.

The X-Men Will Have Comics-Accurate Suits In Avengers: Doomsday

Marvel is keeping things close to the chest when it comes to Avengers: Doomsday‘s story. Multiple characters remain unconfirmed for the movie, with its core story yet to be revealed and no footage as of the time of writing. Thankfully, that has now changed in a major way. It has been revealed that the X-Men will wear comics-accurate suits in Avengers: Doomsday.

The reveal came from a now-deleted post by @giponci on Instagram, where the makeup artist shared crew merch with icons for the confirmed characters who star in Avengers: Doomsday. The image revealed that X-Men members like James Marsden’s Cyclops, Patrick Stewart’s Charles Xavier, Alan Cumming’s Nightcrawler, and more will don the team’s comics-accurate suits.

After 2000’s X-Men included Cyclops’ infamous line about the team wearing black leather suits instead of the classic costumes, saying, “What did you expect, yellow spandex?,” seeing Marsden’s X-Men character and the rest with the team’s Marvel Comics suits is very exciting. It continues what ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool & Wolverine did for Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine, which was extremely well-received.

Avengers: Doomsday Could Also Do More For The X-Men Due To 1 Major Absence

Speaking about Jackman’s Wolverine, the character has not been announced to return in Avengers: Doomsday. While the actor could be part of the film, given that Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige confirmed that more stars from the MCU movie cast had yet to be announced, the possibility that Wolverine will not appear in the film could actually be good for the X-Men.

Wolverine became an instant hit with fans, leading to Cyclops and other characters getting reduced roles in subsequent X-Men movies at Fox. If Hugh Jackman is not in the Avengers movie, then James Marsden’s Cyclops could firmly be the team’s field leader, with other X-Men characters also getting more time to shine. At the very least, the X-Men will look good in Avengers: Doomsday.
