The box office train just keeps chugging for The Conjuring: Last Rites, and it just pᴀssed a milestone that would have been unthinkable even a few years ago. The fourth entry in the Conjuring series and the ninth in the expanded Conjuring universe, The Conjuring: Last Rites saw Ed and Lorraine Warren finally square off against a demon that has plagued them for more than 20 years.
Thanks to the interconnected nature of the universe and the strong brand name recognition, virtually every entry in the Conjuring universe has been mᴀssively profitable. While the review scores for The Conjuring: Last Rites indicate that audiences were disappointed with the supposed final entry, that hasn’t stopped it from becoming the highest-grossing movie in the franchise.
The box office numbers become more jaw-droppingly impressive with every weekend that has pᴀssed since it opened. In just three weeks since its initial wide release, The Conjuring: Last Rites even managed to overcome the most mᴀssively popular and profitable movie franchise of all time, a feat that the Conjuring franchise has surprisingly accomplished once before.
The Conjuring: Last Rites Just Pᴀssed Thunderbolts* At The Global Box Office
The Conjuring: Last Rites just crossed the $400 million mark worldwide, which moves it above the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s acclaimed antihero adventure Thunderbolts* on the 2025 box office charts. Over the course of its entire theatrical run, Thunderbolts* grossed a grand total of $382.4 million, a number that Last Rites blew past on its 17th day in theaters.
This marks the second time that a movie from the Conjuring universe outgrossed an MCU movie that released in the same year. The first instance came in 2023, when The Nun II ($269.6 million) outgrossed the mᴀssive flop The Marvels ($206.1 million). As it stands, The Conjuring: Last Rites has a pretty good sH๏τ at chasing down another MCU movie from 2025.

Captain America: Brave New World managed just $415.1 million during its theatrical run, which Last Rites should pᴀss in the next week or two. It’s too optimistic to think it could catch 2025’s third MCU movie (The Fantastic Four: First Steps, $519.8 million), but what the horror juggernaut has accomplished is still staggering.
In the MCU’s heyday, it was unimaginable that a horror movie might catch one of the key MCU blockbusters at the box office, but with the rise of horror in Hollywood and the MCU’s steady drop-off, it could become commonplace. The Conjuring: Last Rites may finish its run with one of the highest horror movie box office totals of all time, indicating the franchise may have not even found its ceiling yet.
