Star Wars has set up the return of its iconic Sith enemies, six years after their major defeat. Star Wars‘ Sith Lords have been the primary antagonists of the franchise since 1977. Although the word Sith did not debut until the fourth Star Wars movie in release order, they have still been prevalent throughout the franchise.
From apprentices like Darth Vader and Darth Maul to powerful Sith masters in Star Wars like Darth Sidious and Darth Plagueis, the dark side warriors have long manipulated the heroes of the franchise. Despite this, the Sith were finally defeated in 2019’s Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.
Rey Skywalker overcame her grandfather, Emperor Palpatine/Darth Sidious himself, removing the blight of the Sith from the galaxy. However, Star Wars may have just introduced a way to implement the return of the Sith after their ultimate defeat.
Star Wars LEGO’s Force Hold Explained
The return of the SIth has been set up in the most unlikely of places. In September 2025, Lucasfilm released LEGO Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy – Pieces of the Past. The premise of the miniseries follows on from its predecessor, yet stands on its own well. It involves a Force-sensitive LEGO Star Wars character called Sig Greebling.
Sig must unite his allies to stop a new threat to the galaxy, Solitus. Solitus was trapped in a dimensional rift known as the Force Hold, which acts akin to the MCU’s Void. The Force Hold is another realm outside of time and space that houses discarded Star Wars characters and locations, allowing Pieces of the Past to include several major Easter eggs.
If the Force Hold was introduced as a concept in live-action Star Wars or other areas of canon, the Sith could return. It would not be difficult to explain that the ways of the Force Hold had been lost to time, given that the Jedi Order has existed for over 25,000 years in the Star Wars timeline.
It would also make sense for some early Jedi to have cast their Sith enemies to the Force Hold. If upcoming Star Wars movies or TV shows included the concept in canon, these Sith could return to wreak havoc on the galaxy once more.
Star Wars Canon Could Easily Use The Force Hold
Aside from the aforementioned ways in which Star Wars canon could utilize the Force Hold, there are other routes the franchise could take to usher in the return of the Sith via the concept. After all, the Force Hold is a plane of the Force that exists beyond space and time.
Star Wars‘ World Between Worlds is very similar to this, and only the surface of that concept has been touched on. If Star Wars delved deeper into the World Between Worlds and the more mystical sides of the Force, as is expected in an upcoming Star Wars TV show like Ahsoka season 2, the Force Hold could become canon.
With the franchise moving into the future and ushering in a new age of Jedi, scoundrels, and other heroes, the Sith could be useful enemies for Lucasfilm to reintroduce.
The Force Hold would be a perfect way to do so without breaking canon, without robbing Rey Skywalker of her victory over Palpatine, and all the while utilizing an intriguing new concept that further increases the mystery of the Force.
