A notable talent both as a producer and an actor, Margot Robbie can be a powerful enтιтy at the box office. Most substantially, she had a major hit with Barbie in 2023. She both produced and starred in this movie, which made over $1.4 billion and was nominated for multiple Oscars.
But Robbie has been making hits since long before Barbie. Even her breakout role in The Wolf of Wall Street ended up being a high earner, making $389.8 million worldwide. In 2016, Suicide Squad made $749.2 million, and would form one of Robbie’s most iconic roles as Harley Quinn.
In her post-Barbie era, Robbie finds herself in an impossible position. Barbie was a box office hit and a worldwide phenomenon. Any subsequent film will be hard-pressed to surpᴀss it. Now, Robbie’s latest film is out, and the box office numbers are not looking good so far.
A Big Bold Beautiful Journey Is A Box Office Bomb
A Big Bold Beautiful Journey is struggling at the box office so far. The fantasy romance film, which released this weekend, follows the story of two strangers who meet and then find their lives unexpectedly intertwined as they are given the fantastical chance to relive moments from their past.
The film also stars Colin Farrell opposite Robbie. It is Farrell’s second film with A Big Bold Beautiful Journey director Kogonada, who previously helmed the films Columbus and After Yang.
Unfortunately, A Big Bold Beautiful Journey‘s box office numbers are far from what Robbie would have hoped for. As per a report from The Hollywood Reporter, the film is projected to make only $3.8 million this weekend, coming in sixth place. It will be beaten out by Him and Demon Slayer.
What This Means For Margot Robbie
This is quite a disappointing comeback for Robbie after making the sensational Barbie. Unfortunately, the movie is a disappointment in more ways than one. The film has only a 37% score on Rotten Tomatoes, including a tepid review from ScreenRant‘s Mae Abdulbaki, who said that the film had “empty storytelling.”
A Big Bold Beautiful Journey‘s box office results are proof that Robbie’s name alone is not enough to make a movie successful. Despite its big cast, audiences are not responding to this one. This is a disappointing turn for the director, Kogonada, as well, as he had a potential chance to break out into higher-budget work after making two acclaimed indie features.
