Fast X: Part 2 gets a new update from Jason Momoa, who reveals some disappointing news regarding the film’s script. Momoa made his Fast & Furious franchise debut in 2023’s Fast X, playing Dante, the vengeful younger brother to Fast Five‘s (2011) Hernan Reyes.
Though the tenth installment sets Dante up for a continued role moving forward, the announced Fast X: Part 2 remains without a clear filming timeline. The film, which will feature Vin Diesel back as protagonist Dom Toretto, is tentatively expected to arrive in spring 2027.
During a recent interview with The Playlist, Momoa speaks briefly about Fast X: Part 2, expressing excitement about returning as Dante. The only problem, the actor explains, is that he has yet to see a script for the film. Check out Momoa’s comment below:
“I would love to come back and play, man. People all over the world love that character—it’s crazy. But I got no script, so not that soon.”
What This Means For Fast X: Part 2
After the Fast X ending left things on a cliffhanger, the follow-up film was slated to arrive in April 2025. That date came and went, and Diesel then teased that he was trying to get the film in theaters in time for the 25th anniversary of 2001’s original The Fast and the Furious.
With next year now off the table too, Diesel revealed this past summer that April 2027 is the new target. To hit this new date, filming will likely have to get underway in the first half of 2026. It’s not necessarily a worrying sign, then, that Momoa hasn’t seen a script yet.
Getting the large Fast X cast back together to shoot the next installment will be a major undertaking just in terms of scheduling. It’s likely that pieces will start to fall into place by the end of this year or early 2026 as schedules get figured out, meaning more concrete information may not be too far off.
All of this is ᴀssuming, though, that Part 2 doesn’t get delayed again. Fast X reviews were lackluster from critics and the film’s box office was also disappointing relative to its mᴀssive budget. It’s possible that the film is facing issues regarding budgeting, but getting the script right could also be a challenge given it’s supposed to wrap up the whole saga.
Our Take On Jason Momoa’s Fast & Furious 11 Update
Momoa was one of the best parts of Fast X, which was otherwise a bit of a disappointment. Dante was equal parts sadistic and hilarious, and it will be interesting to see how that character is handled in Part 2.
After Diesel’s teases about bringing the franchise back to more grounded storytelling and street racing, it could be tough to find a place for the outsized and explosives-loving Dante. He may have to be stripped back a little to fit into this less fantastical world.
It’s a shame that Fast X: Part 2 won’t be hitting theaters in time for the franchise’s 25th anniversary, but taking the time to get it right is ultimately more important. Hopefully, Dom’s last ride manages to recapture what felt so special about those early installments.
