A new behind-the-scenes image from Star Wars: Starfighter has surfaced. The movie, which is set to debut on May 28, 2027, is currently in production with ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool & Wolverine director Shawn Levy at the helm. It will be one of the franchise’s first theatrical movies after 2019’s The Rise of Skywalker, coming H๏τ on the heels of 2026’s The Mandalorian and Grogu.
The upcoming Star Wars: Starfighter stars three-time Oscar nominee Ryan Gosling and child actor Flynn Gray, though details about their characters remain under wraps. The movie also boasts an ensemble cast that includes Matt Smith, Aaron Pierre, Mia Goth, Jamael Westman, Daniel Ings, Simon Bird, and six-time Oscar nominee Amy Adams.
Director Shawn Levy has shared a new behind-the-scenes sH๏τ from Star Wars: Starfighter. The image shows Ryan Gosling posing with Flynn Gray on what could be a futuristic ship, with a blue ocean stretching out behind them. The caption describes the location as “somewhere in the Mediterranean Sea.” Check out the post below:

What This Means For Star Wars: Starfighter
Although plot details for the upcoming Star Wars movie remain unknown, this image implies that Gosling and Gray’s characters may end up stranded together on an ocean at some point during the story. Although there are several prominent oceans in the universe of the franchise, it seems possible that the ocean in question is a new location.
This is because the key oceans previously shown in the Star Wars franchise seem unlikely to intersect with the new story, which is set five years after the events of The Rise of Skywalker. These oceans include the one surrounding the island where Rey finds Luke at the end of The Force Awakens.
However, Luke is ᴅᴇᴀᴅ during the time of Starfighter and the Jedi library on the island was destroyed during The Last Jedi, so it seems unlikely that it would be the same ocean.
Additionally, while the tropical atmosphere of the Mediterranean makes Starfighter‘s ocean look somewhat similar to the seas on Naboo in The Phantom Menace, it seems unlikely that the prequel location would be revisited at this point in the franchise’s timeline.
Our Take On The New Star Wars: Starfighter Image
Additionally, this new glimpse at Star Wars: Starfighter underscores the fact that the Ryan Gosling movie will see the star spending a lot of one-on-one time with Gray’s character. A previous behind-the-scenes image from the project showed the duo sitting on a different futuristic craft, implying that the film may follow the duo going on a wide-ranging adventure together.
