Liam Neeson’s new comedy movie The Naked Gun has hit another major box office milestone. This year, the Star Wars actor had two movies come out. Released in June, Ice Road: Vengeance starred Neeson as Mike McCann, a grieving ice road trucker who travels to Nepal to fulfill his late brother’s dying wish.
In August, Akiva Schaffer’s The Naked Gun remake saw him taking on the iconic role of Lieutenant Frank Drebin Jr., who has become a police officer following his father’s footsteps. The movie was well-received among critics and fans, having garnered an 88% critics score and a 73% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes.
Now, The Naked Gun becomes the first Liam Neeson movie to cross the $100 million box office benchmark in six years, since 2019’s Star Wars: Episode IX – The Rise of Skywalker. The 2025 comedy flick has totaled $101 million worldwide, with $52.6 million coming from the domestic box office and $48.4 million coming from international ticket sales.
What This Means For Liam Neeson And The Naked Gun
In 2019, Neeson reprised his role as Qui-Gon Jinn in the Star Wars sequel that grossed slightly above $1.07 billion. The movie also became the actor’s second highest-grossing movie, after The Dark Knight Rises‘ $1.08 billion worldwide record. Currently, The Naked Gun ranks No. 29 on the actor’s top-grossing movies list.
Considering Neeson’s impressive acting credits, which include big franchises like Star Wars, Men in Black, and Narnia, and leading his own movie series, Taken, The Naked Gun‘s achievement doesn’t go without notice. While it’s far from becoming the actor’s top five highest-grossing movies, the new comedy, which was made against a production budget of $42 million, is considered a commercial success.
Our Take On Liam Neeson’s The Naked Gun Remake
Since 2019, the Absolution actor has starred in 13 movies. The Naked Gun is the best grossing movie among all 13, which speaks about its box office performance. Neeson has also received praise for his effortless humor playing the role of Lt. Frank Drebin Jr., with many hailing the film as a wonderful throwback to the golden age of parody.
Due to its success, The Naked Gun has had a relatively longer theatrical run than most movies. Even though the movie has been made available to watch at home, fans can still watch it in theaters. As a result, the movie’s box office isn’t finalized yet. Meanwhile, the new Liam Neeson comedy movie with a “fresh” RT score will be available to stream on Paramount+ on September 30.
