Marvel Confirms Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom Design For The MCU’s Next Avengers Movie

Avengers: Doomsday will feature a comics-accurate version of Doctor Doom, at least as far as his movie suit goes, with the Marvel Cinematic Universe version of the villain now fully revealed. Robert Downey Jr. is back in the MCU as Victor von Doom, which is a major change after leading the Marvel Studios franchise for years as Iron Man.

The actor made his return to the franchise in The Fantastic Four: First Steps‘ post-credits scene, which featured the first look at the MCU’s Doctor Doom. However, he was covered in shadows, with only his hood shown and iconic mask in hand. Now, before he leads the MCU’s upcoming Avengers movies, Downey’s Doctor Doom has had his full look revealed.

Instead of coming from an MCU movie or a TV show, the Doctor Doom suit reveal is not from a Marvel project at all. At the Walt Disney Studios Marketing Expo in Shanghai, new Avengers: Doomsday teases emerged, including a light show that hints at the MCU Doctor Doom killing Thanos. Besides the light show, a look at Doctor Doom’s MCU suit was revealed.

On X, @CinXperience shared a look at promotional MCU art from the event, revealing the first full look at Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom in Avengers: Doomsday. The MCU version of the villain looks perfect, with the same silver and green color scheme from the comics. Doctor Doom’s armor includes chainmail, and the character’s iconic mask makes him look imposing.

How Avengers: Doomsday’s Doctor Doom Compares To Other Movie Versions Of Victor Von Doom

Before the MCU used the villain for the first time, three Fantastic Four movies featuring Doctor Doom made their way to theaters. Julian McMahon’s Doctor Doom also donned the villain’s iconic green hood and a similar suit to Robert Downey Jr.’s. That said, there were differences, such as the MCU cape clasps being more prominent, with intricate designs.

Likewise, below the green cloak, McMahon’s Doctor Doom armor was not quite as elaborate as Downey’s has been revealed to be. When it comes to the Fantastic Four actor’s second movie as Doctor Doom, the differences become even clearer. In Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer, Doctor Doom’s suit includes a darker cloak and a more armored look.

As such, the MCU’s Doctor Doom looks more comics-accurate. Then there is the 2015 Fantastic Four version of Doctor Doom. Toby Kebbell’s Doom looks completely different from the comics, with Victor’s body fusing with metal and green energy showing through. Thankfully, Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom suit for Avengers: Doomsday looks nothing like it, with an epic design that should please Marvel fans.
