iCarly Movie Gets Major Filming Update From Miranda Cosgrove After Reboot Cancellation

The iCarly movie has gotten a major filming update from star Miranda Cosgrove following the reboot series’ cancellation. Originally airing from 2007 to 2012 on Nickelodeon, iCarly became one of the most defining teen sitcoms of its era. Therefore, it made sense when Paramount+ launched a revival series in 2021, with Miranda Cosgrove, Jerry Trainor, and Nathan Kress returning.

The iCarly reboot picked up years after the original series ended, reintroducing the characters as adults. Running for three seasons, the revival show received positive reviews for maturing the original tone without losing its core idenтιтy, but was unfortunately canceled in October 2023. However, an iCarly movie was later confirmed to be in development to wrap up unresolved storylines.

Now, in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Cosgrove has shared a key update on the progress of the iCarly film. According to the star and executive producer, the upcoming iCarly movie’s script is nearly finished and will focus on Carly’s mother returning, with filming expected to begin in early 2026. Check out Cosgrove’s full statement below:

The script is almost finished and it looks like we’re gonna be filming it early next year, so I’m really excited. I think the biggest challenge now is gonna be casting the character that’s gonna be the mom because that’s a character I don’t think any of us ever really thought we were gonna meet within that universe, so we just really want to make sure we get it right.

Cosgrove also reflected on her experience with the reboot show, recalling how being on the iCarly set again was “really cool, but it’s definitely kind of strange and crazy,” before expressing, “It was really fun getting to play that character again as an adult in a new environment and getting to actually have a say in what the character does.”

What This Means For The iCarly Movie

This marks a key moment for the franchise as iCarly transitions from long-form series to a standalone feature. The decision to bring Carly’s mother into the iCarly movie signals a significant expansion of the franchise, especially as Carly’s family life has always been largely defined by her parents’ absence, with her older brother Spencer serving as her legal guardian.

By finally introducing her mother, the movie will address a long-standing gap in the show’s mythology that fans have been waiting for. It also suggests a more emotional tone, especially given where iCarly season 4 left off. Therefore, with Cosgrove stating they will begin filming in early 2026, fans won’t have to wait long to see the ultimate conclusion.

The upcoming iCarly finale movie is really exciting for fans of both the original and reboot series, as it presents an opportunity to conclude the franchise in a meaningful way. Paramount+’s revival successfully reimagined the original show for a modern, older audience, and the film appears poised to continue that evolution as it gears up for one final story.

Introducing Carly’s mother is a bold narrative decision, providing answers to a long-running mystery which could add emotional depth to a world-famous series and its adult reboot, possibly drawing a major audience. With the script nearing completion and filming scheduled for early next year, the iCarly movie is progressing steadily and we, for one, cannot wait to see it.
