A new update from Robert Pattinson emerges about The Batman 2 as the DC sequel gets closer to starting production. While James Gunn’s Chapter 1: “Gods and Monsters” is underway for the DC Universe franchise, Matt Reeves’ Elseworlds is also expanding with his take on the Caped Crusader that began in 2022.
For 2024, The Penguin TV show fleshed out his universe, while leaving the world waiting for the return of the Dark Knight. While the sequel has been in development for several years, things are finally starting to come together for Reeves’ highly-anticipated installment, which is slated for 2027.
In a new interview with Variety, the DC director was asked about any updates he could share for his next film, as the screenplay was completed earlier this year. Not only did he share a new update on when filming is looking to start in 2026, but Reeves also revealed Pattinson’s thoughts on the script:
Matt Reeves: We start shooting [the film] in spring, probably around the end of April or beginning of May. It’s been a long journey, but I am so incredibly excited. I’m really proud of the script me and Mattson [Tomlin] did, and we’ve started to share it with Robert [Pattinson]. Rob was super excited, I feel really excited about the idea that it’s gonna be, that we feel like we can reach farther and do even more than we did in the first one. And, I’m I’m really excited to get back together with everybody that we made the movie with, and, it’s gonna be fun. We put [the script] into a secret pouch that literally has a lock on it with a code. [Pattinson] was in New York at the time, and everything is high security. We really trust Rob, because he’s the best.
What Matt Reeves’ The Batman 2 Update Means
As more The Batman 2 cast members are getting the script, the sequel is getting further into the pre-production stages, which means several exciting things for eager audience members. Not only does it allow returning stars to get further prepared, but it will also eventually kickoff the casting process for new characters who will enter the story.
Depending on how the search goes, it’s possible that casting announcements for the sequel could start rolling out in the fall or towards the end of 2025. That will ideally also reveal more hints about The Batman 2 story, as very little is known about the 2027 entry so far.
That include elements such as who the next DC villain will be in Bruce Wayne’s arc, as well as supporting characters who may show up from the larger comic canon. But given the director’s update, they are looking to raise the bar for the newest film.
Our Take On Matt Reeves’ The Batman 2 Update
From everything that Reeves stated, it’s exciting to finally see his universe going forward and getting ready to return after the 2022 installment. With everything that was also set up in The Penguin season 1, there will be a lot of plot points to continue from the first movie and the HBO drama in The Batman universe.
As they are also going to great lengths to keep the script a secret, there have to be some big things being planned for the sequel. Hopefully, it won’t be too long until actual The Batman 2 announcements start rolling out and finally give the audience a bigger idea of what is in store for the film.
