Star Wars Actor Wants To Appear In Spoof Follow-Up Spaceballs 2 After Fumble In Sequel Trilogy

A Star Wars actor has an interest in joining another iconic space franchise, pitching himself for a role in Spaceballs 2. The original Mel Brooks parody was heavily inspired by Star Wars, and now that the sequel has been announced after 40 years, a Star Wars alum wants to cross over to another galaxy far, far away.

We already know that original Spaceballs stars Bill Pullman, Mel Brooks, Daphne Zuniga, and Rick Moranis (returning to acting for the first time in years) are set to reprise their iconic roles in Spaceballs 2. Meanwhile, Keke Palmer, Lewis Pullman, and Josh Gad are new to the Spaceballs 2 cast. Plot details, however, are sparse at the moment.

Angling to join them is none other than John Boyega. The actor who played Finn in Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens and its sequels made his desire to join Spaceballs 2 known at Dragon Con.

“[My phone] hasn’t rung yet, so I have to come here and just say it. They could pick up the phone and give me a call. Let me make Spaceballs legit.”

Spaceballs 2, which is directed by Josh Greenbaum and co-written by Gad, Dan Hernandez, and Benji Samit, is targeting a 2027 release date.

What This Means For Spaceballs 2 Cast

The seven announced Spaceballs 2 cast members are likely going to make up the main ensemble for the sci-fi parody, but that doesn’t mean there can’t be room for supporting roles or cameos, in which Boyega could potentially fit.

Brooks has often featured notable actors from the movies he’s spoofing. Notably in the original Spaceballs, John Hurt was a patron in a diner being frequented by Pullman’s Lone Starr and John Candy’s Barf, only for his meal to result in chest-bursting incident, a reference to his role in 1979’s Alien.

It wouldn’t be a shock for there to be some fun cameos in Spaceballs 2. However, even if a notable cameo were to be lined up, it would be understandable if the Spaceballs team did everything they could to keep it a secret, so it’s a surprise for audiences while watching the movie.

Our Take On John Boyega Wanting To Be In Spaceballs 2

With that being said, I’d love for Boyega to get his wish and become a part of the Spaceballs 2 cast. The Millennium Falcon did appear in a quick establishing sH๏τ in the original Spaceballs, so we know Star Wars things can exist in Brooks’ universe. That means Finn popping up would make sense, canonically.

Regardless, whether it’s as Finn or a completely different character, Boyega’s desire to be in Spaceballs 2 speaks to the legacy of the original, and Mel Brooks overall. Brooks’ movies are comedy touchstones for multiple generations, so it’s of little surprise the excitement for the long-awaited sequel everyone has, inside and outside of Hollywood.
