September 27 Is A Great Day For Karate Kid Fans

Karate Kid: Legends is going to make its streaming debut on Netflix in the coming weeks, after the movie made more than $100 million in movie theaters earlier this year. The sixth movie in The Karate Kid franchise, and the first since 2010, brings together Jackie Chan and Ralph Macchio to teach a new student.

Ben Wang plays the new karate kid, Li, who moves to New York City with his family. When he begins to be bullied, he decides to enter a high-profile karate compeтιтion, enlisting the help of Mr. Han (Chan) and Daniel LaRusso (Macchio). Joshua Jackson, Ming-Na Wen, Sadie Stanley, Aramis Knight, and Wyatt Oleff also star in the Jonathan Entwistle movie.

Starting Saturday, September 27, Karate Kid: Legends will make its streaming debut exclusively on Netflix. That comes just shy of four months from its release in movie theaters, and about two-and-a-half months after the movie got off to a solid start on VOD platforms, eclipsing Sinners shortly after its release.

What This Means For Karate Kid: Legends

More people are going to have the chance to watch Karate Kid: Legends once it premieres on Netflix, which could help turn the tide on this perceived 2025 “flop.”

Critics weren’t crazy about the latest entry in The Karate Kid franchise, as the movie scored 58% from reviewers on Rotten Tomatoes. Audiences that saw the movie had a different response, with Karate Kid: Legends scoring 90% on the Popcornmeter. ScreenRant’s Mae Abdulbaki definitely falls in the latter category based on her Karate Kid: Legends review.

The addition to Netflix also means the streamer has almost the entire Karate Kid franchise available to watch. That includes the first three Karate Kid movies starring Macchio and Pat Morita, 2010’s The Karate Kid starring Chan and Jaden Smith, and all seasons of Cobra Kai. The only entry to the martial arts franchise missing is The Next Karate Kid.

I’ll be one of those people who will look to finally catch Karate Kid: Legends when it premieres on Netflix. Between the movie’s underwhelming Rotten Tomatoes score and the other movies arriving at the start of the summer, Karate Kid: Legends fell down my must-watch list.

I’ve always had a soft spot for the franchise – particularly the Macchio and Morita movies – so I did want to try and catch it when it eventually hit streaming. So I’ll definitely be finding some time to watch Karate Kid: Legends on Netflix come September 27.
