Spider-Man Recreates Thor’s ‘Should’ve Gone For the Head’ Thanos Scene In Marvel’s New Release

The MCU is about to air a repeat of Thor’s biggest mistake in the MCU with its newest release, Marvel Zombies. This has been heralded by scenes depicted in the latest Marvel Zombies trailer, which has provided a closer look at the latest TV-MA production from the largely family-friendly franchise.

This atypical foray into more mature themes is a welcome one after ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool & Wolverine proved how capably the MCU can handle such settings. Marvel Zombies appears poised to capitalize on its violent subject matter in a big way, refusing to pull its punches with the violence and gore that define the material it is adapting.

This gives classic R-rated heroes like Blade ample room to flaunt their skills. One scene involving the character has already been turning heads, as he is shown embroiled in a stunningly choreographed sword fight with a zombified Ghost as he embraces the Moon Knight mantle.

Trailers have also confirmed that the likes of Spider-Man will not be embracing his typically non-lethal approach to conflicts, thanks in no small part to the fact that his opponents are already ᴅᴇᴀᴅ. This makes for an exciting prospect as the incredibly strong wall-crawler will be showcasing the full extent of his powers.

Unfortunately for Spider-Man, being given room to showcase his powers doesn’t seem to preclude him from repeating one of the Infinity Saga’s most frustrating mistakes.

Marvel Repeats Thor’s Biggest Mistake In Avengers: Infinity War

The latest official trailer for Marvel Zombies has established the desperate situation faced by a small contingent of surviving heroes who have yet to succumb to the zombie plague that has infected some of the MCU’s most powerful characters. Spider-Man is among the most recognizable survivors, and likely one of the most valuable.

The sheer scale of the threat they face is encapsulated by the arrival of one zombified nemesis in particular: Thanos. To make matters worse, zombie Thanos wields and can apparently still use a partially completed Infinity Gauntlet.

One scene in the Marvel Zombies trailer shows at least three of the survivors—Ant-Man, Black Panther, and Spider-Man—facing Thanos after they obtain Thor’s Uru-forged axe, Stormbreaker. Unfortunately, Spider-Man repeats Thor’s fatal mistake of launching Stormbreaker at the Mad тιтan and embedding it in his chest.

Just like he did in Avengers: Infinity War, Thanos is then able to raise his hand and use the Infinity Gauntlet after surviving the attack. Thankfully, it is unlikely he’ll be able to repeat the Snap, given the Infinity Gauntlet is devoid of the all-important Soul Stone.

Spider-Man never learned from Thor’s misstep, as Marvel Zombies takes place in a universe separate from the mainline MCU’s Earth-616. The show is a spinoff of one of What If…?’s most popular episodes, What If…Zombies?!, and will seemingly strike the same tone as that episode.

Like ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool & Wolverine, the mature rating of Marvel Zombies will be tempered by comedic undertones that this scene helps to demonstrate. Short of being a shallow moment of fan service, however, this tongue-in-cheek nod to a moment that helped traumatize MCU fans is a promising sign that Marvel Zombies is poised to have fun with the multiverse concept.
